If you haven't been to historic Wilmington, you are missing out on one of the most scenic and inspiring stretches of real estate in all of the southeast. In my opinion, it rivals Savannah, though not on the same scale as the ridge the original city was built upon is not as high or long as Savannah.

Nonetheless the historic mansions, many from the early 800,s some from the late 1700 as well..just wonderful!

Wilmington's Historic District is one of the oldest in the Southern United States and well worth a visit! Whether it's alone, with a loved one, or with the kids, there are things for all tastes and interests. Come during the day for shopping or at night for great retaurants and night life! Beautiful! Highly reccomended!

If you want to experience day and nightlife in an historic southern city you have got to visit downtown Wilmington'NC. It reminds me of a scales down version of Charleston ,SC. with its many shops, galleries, and historic architecture. This is a must for those who love the South.

All my daughter wanted for Christmas was a trip to Wilmington, and time to wander around the Historic District! I was quite happy to oblige. We stay down at the Best Western right on Riverwalk. We can walk down to the shops, and one morning I got up early to stroll along the river, and encountered a small indie film being shot on Main Street. How cool is that?

We love the shops, the huge variety of eateries, and most of all, the genuine warmth and friendliness of everyone we meet there - not just the people who serve us in the cafes, etc. It's the people we meet out on the streets, in the shops, everywhere. Favorite places - Front Street Brewery, The Black Cat, the tour in a horse-drawn carriage, Planet, and several great shops at the Cotton Exchange (the book store and Celtic shops always have cool things!).

What a great place to wander, try great new foods, and meet real, honest genteel southern folks. We keep going back, because we always have such great experiences there.
