We spent a relaxing, stress free weekend in the Amethyst room. The house is beautiful all by itself, but it is surrounded by breathtaking mountains. There are miles and miles of logging trails around the house that welcome explorers. The service is wonderful and everyone that we came into contact with were so welcoming and friendly. We ate at the restaurant several times and everything we ordered was delicious.

We arrived about 4:00 PM at the Tuckasiegee River Mountain Lodge, with an address in Whittier, NC. It is a very peaceful place, situated at the top of a mountain and overlooking a beautiful valley and the Tuckasiegee River.

We had a nice dinner our first night there, which was cooked by the innkeeper's daughter Tish, and served by her delightful daughter; a 2nd grader named Ashlyn. We were invited by the innkeeper Nancy to make ourselves feel at home, and we relaxed and watched some dish TV and hit the sack in the beautiful "Ruby Room". LOVED IT !!!

We headed out the next day for a ride on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroads. We had a beautiful 4.5 hour trip up the Nantahala Gorge, as our eyes feasted on the bright Fall foliage colors of green/yellow/red/gold/orange, and the clear lakes and river running alongside the train tracks.

It was a wonderful experience riding on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad. Beautiful scenery, the tunes played and sung by the banjo player, and the relaxing sway and clickety-clackety of the train wheels in the track. We stopped by the river to stretch our legs.

Went back to the Tuckasiegee River Mountain Lodge to relax and get some much needed sleep before heading home at the end of our vacation trip.

BUT - it was soooooo beautiful and peaceful at the Lodge, that we begged the innkeeper to let us stay another day!! Nancy graciously let us extend our stay, and we definitely needed one more day to relax and do NOTHING !!!!

We spent our last day playing on our iPads (the lodge has free Wifi), doing some reading and watching TV. We had another Tish cooked delicious homestyle dinner in the lodge's quaint restaurant on our last night, which was again served by the sweet and energetic Ashlyn, and her older brother Kelly. Our thanks to everyone at the Tuckasiegee River Mountain Lodge for an awesome stay - WE WILL RETURN!!

My mother, sister, sister-in-law and I stayed here on Friday, October 19 and 20 of 2012. This bed and breakfast is absolutely perfect! When we arrived, it was dark. We drove up the 1.5 mile winding road and made our way to the top of the mountain to the house. We could see a few lights off in the distance and we assumed it was a great view of the terrain below us but we had no idea how gorgeous the view was until morning. We were in the sapphire room, a two bedroom suite with a dividing washroom, and we fell in love with the place. The beds were extremely comfortable, the rooms immaculately clean and the decor a southern country feel. The house was quiet and comfortable and we had no trouble feeling at home.

In the morning we woke up and looked out our bedroom window. It took my breath away! The perfectly manicured yard opened up to a spectacular view of the mountains! The fall colours were so beautiful. We made our way to the dinning room and were quickly served by the inn keeper and her family. The coffee was excellent! The breakfast was complimentary and we were given so many opitions from eggs, bacon and homefries to pancakes and waffles. I ate the apple cinnamon waffles for breakfast both days and I LOVED it!

After breakfast we decided to hike through the logging trails out behind the house. We walked for three hours and the view just kept getting better! The trails were clear and easy to navigate and they went on for miles (we didn't get nearly as far as the trails could take us).

After three hours of snapping pictures and thanking God for the glorious scenery, we returned to the house and got dressed for a day of shopping in Waynesville. The town is so perfect and quaint! The main street is lined with gift shops and coffee shops and the town was holding their annual Apple Harvest Festival. Definitely a town you'll want to see if you visit this area.

We returned to the b&b and ate a great dinner. I had the parmesan crusted chicken and it was fantastic! We had another great sleep and woke up to a foggy morning. The fog had settled at the foot of the mountains and it made for great pictures. Breakfast was amazing yet again but shortly after we had to leave to continue our trip towards Tennessee. It broke our hearts to leave but we know we will be back. The inn keepers ended up turning into family. We loved you all (y'all) and will see you again! Thanks for the wonderful vacation!

Room Tip: I believe all of the rooms are great but from my experience, the Sapphire room was fantastic! Great...

We stayed in the Amethyst room for a weekend and were really happy. The bed and breakfast
has a lot of old-world charm in every nook and corner. The views are amazing and they change with the time of day with the sun, fog and clouds playing hide and seek. The B&B is easily accessible, just 10 minutes up the mountain from the state highway. It is close to Smokies National park and most other area attractions.

And it has perfect hosts. They treat you like family. James does the cooking himself for the most part I think and the food was delectable. We are vegetarians and he cooked something specially for us, stuffed peppers, and the quality was similar to a high end restaurant. Even simple things like breakfast vegetables seemed gourmet.

All in all, everything was great and better than what we expected.

They treat you like family. James does the cooking and the food is wonderful. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have an extensive menu. The Parmeson crusted chicken was tender and juicy and the sauce delicious. Breakfast is served 7:30 to 10:30 which is very flexible. You are in this beautiful home surrounded by gorgeous mountain views. There is an ambiance of another decade throughout the Inn; even our room, the Amethyst, carried this same feeling. I was pleasantly surprised at how great the water pressure was. Everything is spotless and in mint condition. The decorations are plentiful but not overdone. Nancy and Tisha were welcoming while giving space. You are close to any of the small towns nearby. I also recommend using Paddle Inn Whitewater rafting company and eating at Kostas, a Greek restaurant in Dillsboro. Make sure you get directions off their website as we took ours off Google and passed the turnoff.

We stayed 2 nights Oct. 5 - 8, 2012 and loved the views. The Ruby Room was spacious, including a lovely fireplace, couch, chair, and dressers. We also liked the full length antique mirror. The views were amazing, and the food was delicious, breakfast and dinner. We recommend this retreat to anyone wanting a restful family atmosphere.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the lodge have the best views.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights. We stayed in the Ruby room and brought our 60 lb dog when we found out the Lodge was pet friendly. Tisha and James welcomed all 3 of us with open arms. Nancy gave us the tour and got us oriented. Everything was clean and the bed was soooo comfortable. The inn keepers and the other guests were so friendly that meal time was like one big family dinner. Food there is so amazing that we didn't go anywhere else to eat. The chicken cordon bleu is the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. This B&B is small and family run and we loved that. But they also give you your space to do your own thing. We hated to leave but know we will be back again.
