Owner description: This pioneer farmstead, tucked in the Reems Creek Valley, features the birthplace of Zebulon Baird Vance, Civil War Governor of NC. The five-room log house and its outbuildings are furnished to evoke the period from 1795 to 1840. Vance's military and political career as Civil War officer, North Carolina governor, and U.S. Senator is traced at the homestead. Also included is the history of Vance's famous mountain family.

The museum has interesting artifacts & exhibits from the Vance time period. Great visit especially for history buffs! The house tour is very impressive of what life was like in the 1800's, Josh was our tour guide-he was knowledgable & very informative! If in the area and love history don't miss it...

Yes, it is still standing! The museum, although small, has many interesting "finds". The tour of the old homestead, the outbuildings, including the slave quarters were quite impressionable. There were a lot of original and period tools and cooking utensils throughout. Would like to see it on a warmer day, since it was extremely cold on our trip.

The exhibits and tour are very interesting. I would suggest a cool afternoon to visit because there is little shade to walk around in. Make sure you do the short tour of the house---it is very interesting.
