Owner description: This pioneer farmstead, tucked in the Reems Creek Valley, features the birthplace of Zebulon Baird Vance, Civil War Governor of NC. The five-room log house and its outbuildings are furnished to evoke the period from 1795 to 1840. Vance's military and political career as Civil War officer, North Carolina governor, and U.S. Senator is traced at the homestead. Also included is the history of Vance's famous mountain family.

“Small but Interesting”
Reviewed September 25, 2011

This is a small historical site but nicely done and staff is very helpful. We enjoyed our view into an early 1800's era mountain homestead and early life of an interesting North Carolina political figure. Short drive off Blue Ridge Parkway down the beautiful Ox Creek Valley. Covered picnic tables available for a snack or lunch. If time permits head down Reems Creek Rd. to the lovely small town of Weaverville.

“Hidden little gem!! Lovely House and free”
Reviewed October 17, 2010

We visited the homestead and what a treat. There is a small gift shop with mostly handmade gifts at reasonable prices. The 2 ladies that work there were very friendly and they opened up the house and gave us a tour which included the history of the property.
