Just got back from a long weekend at The Swag and I can't find anything to complain about. We've been to some top notch hotels around the world and this place is at the top of the list. They take care of everything for you and the grounds are amazing. The inn keepers are around a lot and clearly make sure everything is done to the highest level of quality. We found this place as an alternative to going to Biltmore or Grove Park, and after this trip we definitely will always go to The Swag. The experience is just unforgettable!

Can't say how much we enjoyed The Swag. Fantastic food, dining with the Innkeeper. Most accommodating staff. Beautiful mountain top. Very laid back, but still pamper you! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We loved The Wood Shed

My husband & I just got back from celebrating our 37th anniversary at The Swag. It exceeded every expectation that we had. Is it expensive? Absolutely. Is it worth every penny and more? Absolutely plus! From the moment that we arrived we were treated so well. Everyone that works at the inn makes you feel welcome. We stayed in Laurin's Room, which isn't the biggest room, but we LOVED it! It's furnished perfectly for the mountain setting that this inn is in. We had a beautiful view of the mountains from our windows, a working fireplace, which we used, a wet bar with fridge, a 2 person steam shower with a skylight , King bed- I didn't want to leave. The beds all have a Swag black bear sitting on them. At turndown every evening, we'd find our bear wearing hats, taking photos with our camera - whoevery turns down is wonderfully creative. The food is gourmet - every meal we had was delicious and the Sunday brunch is fantastic. Our anniversary dinner was served at a special table by the window - we have the "premier" table! We had fresh flowers in a handmade pottery vase (which was a gift from the inn), a lovely note from the owner (who is an amazing lady who takes care of all of us), and after dinner a special cake to celebrate our anniversary. They give you special hiking sticks to use on the endless supply of hiking trails around the inn, there was a storyteller every night after dinner, they pack a picnic lunch for you to have on the trail on at any of their special places around the property. And if you go, make sure you climb to Gooseberry Knob - the view from there will take your breath away. There are plenty of adirondeck chairs and a gazebo with a hammock (which I highly recommend). This place is incredibly special and we can't wait to go back!!

Through the STASH affiliation, we have found a complimentary destination to Little Palm Island FL in the Florida Keys (we are big fans). From Sea Level to 5,000+ feet, the climb up the wooded road to the summit of The Swag Country Inn is the prelude to a renewing of your relationship with your partner, and with nature. The views from the top of the mountain are spectacular. The trails, and we want to do more, are from beginner to expert. You are adjacent to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park - just cross the fence and you are in another world. But don't think this is a wilderness camp - with warmly fitted rooms with comforts including, your own sauna, steam shower, fireplace, these are just a few of the amenities that await your visit. Your hosts Deener and Dan Matthews have established the model for "how to do it" - and they are part of the visit - lots of stuff to hear about from their experiences, and how The Swag came to be. The kitchen staff is creative and does a lot in a small space - warm and invitiing hospitality before dinner is not to be missed - the thoughtful lunches packed to take with you into the great outdoors - all add in to make The Swag a destination to put on your list. We spent the 4th of July at the top of the mountain, and the afternoon/evening activities made an enjoyable evening to celebrate our great country. We are going back for the fall foliage - we can't wait until October. Just a note, bring your own adult beverages as the county is dry, but don't let that keep you away - there is so much more, that you might not even miss a glass of wine with dinner.

In our twenty-five years together this week at the Swag was the best! We ate, slept and hiked while a very attentive staff helped to make our twenty fifth wedding anniversary the celebration of a lifetime.
The breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains, the most delicious food ever, hiking trails, and lovely hosts made it hard to leave this paradise.

Room Tip: "Gail's Room" is worth the little extra. We had the premier view of the Smoky Mtns. f...

We didn't know what to expect as we drove up the steep, gravel driveway. But we said; "We'll make the best of it no matter what." Small words after we reached the Inn. We were in sensory overload as the host gave us our wooden name chips to go on our walking sticks, to the eco-friendly environment. You will find very little plastic around the Swag. The Reading Library building was filled with so much history and information. Than on to our room. Three showers - One an outdoor shower, a Steam Shower and a regular shower, plus our own personal suana. The Appalachian Trail is right at your foot and we got a short hike in before the rains came in. But that was a magic wonderland in itself. We sat on our covered porch, lit a FIREPLACE in the Middle of JUNE and enjoyed the patter on the lush green fauna and trees. The meals were beyond words. Excellent Breakfast (DO NOT MISS THE SUNDAY BRUNCH). The Dinners were 4 course but weren't heavy portions. Just perfect. The host Dan and Deener were absolutley delightful. I want to return NOW. Also, Say HELLO to Malcolm - the Cat.
