Ate dinner here on Memorial Day Monday, when few other restaurants were open in downtown Waynesville. Everyone on the staff was very friendly. We like the decor: warm crimson walls, low lighting for a more intimate dining experience. My wife and I both had the pan-seared pink rainbow trout with a creamy fresh herb & garlic lemon butter sauce. We had eaten trout earlier in our trip in Bryson City, and this trout was so much fresher and tastier. The fresh trout flavor was not overpowered by extra seasonings or add-ons, just right. House salad was excellent, included pecans, cranberries, and house-made dressings (recommend sweet onion and lemongrass vinaigrette). Home-made, warm cheese biscuits complemented the salad. Only complaint is that the selection of side dishes was not very interesting for me. For dessert, we ate Granny Smith apple crisp, with ice cream, that was not over-sugared and had a crunchy, oaty texture. I would gladly go there again to try their other offerings.

On our second evening in Waynesville we ate at The Sweet Onion. Our "wonder woman" waitress was great. Good value for money and generous portions. I would recommend the sashimi tuna and crab cakes. And ask for the lemongrass house dressing if you order a salad.

Fairly good service, serving generous, food came out cold but tastey after warm-up. Will choose another spot next time.

We have been in the past and found this restaurant very satisfactory. But there has been a definite change. We had a reservation on a Tuesday night as we had been before in the Fall when it is very busy. It didn't seem necessary at 6:00PM and we were seated promptly and our order was taken. We waited over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The biscuits served before dinner were hard. The open faced sandwich of roast beef had burnt toast and the potato and bacon special of the evening was hard and undercooked. We sent it back and got grits which were just OK. There was a small group of 8 ladies in the restaurant but otherwise we saw no reason for this lengthy delay and poor quality of food. Not sure what has gone wrong.

We were considering waiting for the dinner hour to start at another restaurant when the host at our B and B suggested this restaurant for our really late lunch. It was great--I had the wonderful trout dinner hubby had catfish. The side dishes were excellent--some of the best fried okra we've ever had. Our server was professional and didn't make us feel even the slightest bit rushed, though we discovered as we were leaving we were her last customers of the day. We'll go back for the fish alone.
