“FOG!!”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Our entire stay was shrouded by fog. We had a trecherous treck up the mountain to the inn, missed the signage to enter the property due to the fog. It was unfortunate as we were really looking forward to sitting on the private porch, in the rockers and seeing the view. The outdoor furniture is new and looked really nice but of course was soaking wet. Our room was fine; paid extra for the king bed which was worth it. The Wifi was weak and bathroom was tiny. Dined for dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was fine. Our server Lucian, was engaged and chatty. They attempted to ease our disappointment with free post cards of what the view would have been, had it been clear. Our dinner was good, breakfast average. Since there was nothing else to do, we watched TV although the channel selection is limited. If I'm in the area, would definately go back if clear weather but would not make a special trip again and risk bad weather. Breakfast was included in the room rate we had.

My parents have been visiting and raving about the Pisgah Inn for years and finally decided to share the experience with the rest of the family. What a great place to get above it all. While the weather was not ideal, we were still able to get in lots of hiking, visited the Cradle of Forestry, and PARI. Opening the doors and watching the clouds roll into your room is an interesting experience. (Although when the clouds do that, it really block the picturesque views of the area.

Since our stay in May 2012 the rooms have been updated: new fixtures in the bathroom, new flooring, lighter colors (paint? drapes?), new balcony furniture . . . all in all, good improvements. (They could still use a room clock and a soap shelf in the shower.) All the things that have attracted us for several stays in the past 10-15 years remain: the view, the mountaintop setting, access to a good on-site restaurant and the included breakfast, proximity to hiking trails and other natural attractions, etc. We will continue to return for years to come.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor add a bit to the view and on a cold, windy day the first or second building m...

We are checking out this morning. The hotel is an old, rustic hotel that needs updating. That said, the staff is very nice and helpful. The views are amazing however, and this may be seasonal, after a day trip to Waynesville and Maggie Valley we returned up the mountain to find ourselves in the worst fog I have ever experienced. The final few miles to the hotel were on a winding narrow mountain crest road with no visibility. Frightening.

Room Tip: All rooms have fabulous views.

The view from each room is the best! We requested a second floor room for more height on the view, however a family might like the ground floor for safety with kids on the balcony. No pets, no smoking and no smoking pets - love that policy! Rooms are modestly furnished, but comfortable. $135 on weekends includes a generous breakfast. Convenient parking, country store, restaurant, two trails on the property. Easy & scenic drive to Asheville and Brevard, great hikes, educational center... Next time I will bring a quilt from home to wrap up in while enjoying the view at sunset from the rockers on the balcony. My only negative comment would be the rooms are not well insulated. We could hear conversations and coughing clearly from the guests in the next room - probably due to the fact that the adjoining door is single width instead of double.

We stayed at the Pisgah Inn on May 12th on our way to the Smoky Mountains for our anniversary. Our room was a King on the 2nd floor of Tree Tops building and the view was spectacular. The room was spacious and newly renovated. The bed was very comfortable. We didn't get to use the private balcony, as the weather was close to freezing and blustery (but sunny). There is new balcony furniture and new furniture throughout the room. Very, Very nice. The price of the room includes a complimentary breakfast (great selection of food) in the morning. We feel the price is very reasonable for the room, breakfast, and gorgeous view. We have stayed there in the past and have always been very pleased. The staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. We would recommend the Pisgah Inn to all. We will definitely be back in the future. Please see our review of the restaurant, also.

Room Tip: Request a 2nd floor room for the best views from any of the buildings.

It's a delightful inn the mountains, not a luxury hotel, but that's what we were hoping for. The view from the room and the restaurant were beyond compare. The beds were comfortable and the heating worked well. I was also delighted to find they used some great environmental practices. We all found the food and service at the restaurant to be wonderful. Tip, for a better chance to take in the specatular view arrive in the latter afternoon when the fog has had a chance to lift and don't expect to see much in the morning.
