Location, location, location. The inn's tag line is "at the peak of the Parkway," and that's true: the views are fantastic from all of the rooms (as far as I could tell), and from the dining room. This inn is convenient to many good hiking trails (we climbed Mt. Pisgah; you can walk the Buck Spring Trail right from the inn; and it's a short drive to other popular spots such as Graveyard Fields). We reserved the Pisgah Room, the one suite offered by the inn, and it was worth it--room to roll out your yoga mat! We used the fireplace and enjoyed having the extra living space since we were there for more than one night. In the mountains, you should expect a slightly rustic atmosphere, and that's what you get: well-worn rocking chairs and no phone (you can request a "wake-up knock" on your door, rather than a call, if necessary). Relax and absorb the ever-changing panoramic view of the misty mountains from your private balcony (separated from others' by a panel that isn't sound-proof, but so what). The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and there were even 2 TVs. The bathroom's a little small, but that didn't matter to us. Guests of the inn get a voucher for a free breakfast, which is much, much better than your typical chain-hotel grab-and-go; there are choices for different full meals. We enjoyed our two dinners there, with a glass of wine, too. I appreciated how the hosts made an effort to seat people as close to the windows as possible, whenever possible, and gave them the option to wait for a window-side seat if they so desired. The food was fine; local trout, for one thing (I appreciated that our server, in de-boning it, noticed that the fish was slightly undercooked; she took it back to the kitchen and it came back nicely done)--and a good burger for lunch. The owner strolled table to table to welcome guests and request feedback--nice touch. Folks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. An altogether pleasant experience. For the views alone, hope to return someday.
