My husband and I returned to Camp Hatteras in July 2009 coming from NJ we encountered
bumper to bumper traffic on US 168 South which changed our arrival time. We had a Premium Site No. 49 which was close to the beach. Its very convenient when you are taking all you beach gear. It was very relaxing. The campground was not full which was
surprising however traveling south on Rt 12 we noticed there were many rental properties that were vacant. The Staff was very nice and the bathroom were very clean. We took my mother and our 21 year old daughter and they both were equally impressed. The spa and outdoor pool was clean and never crowded. If you are looking for night life this area is not for you. I can however recommend Dolphins Den for dinner it is not fancy, good food and reasonable. The campgrounds rates are a little on the high side however it was very nice. Just a note there is no shade at this campground and we were only able to use our awing one day in our location the wind kept whipping the awning and kept me up all night. Cooking is also tough with the wind. Overall I would stay again.
