“2nd REVIEW ON CAMP HATTERAS”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2009

My husband and I returned to Camp Hatteras in July 2009 coming from NJ we encountered
bumper to bumper traffic on US 168 South which changed our arrival time. We had a Premium Site No. 49 which was close to the beach. Its very convenient when you are taking all you beach gear. It was very relaxing. The campground was not full which was
surprising however traveling south on Rt 12 we noticed there were many rental properties that were vacant. The Staff was very nice and the bathroom were very clean. We took my mother and our 21 year old daughter and they both were equally impressed. The spa and outdoor pool was clean and never crowded. If you are looking for night life this area is not for you. I can however recommend Dolphins Den for dinner it is not fancy, good food and reasonable. The campgrounds rates are a little on the high side however it was very nice. Just a note there is no shade at this campground and we were only able to use our awing one day in our location the wind kept whipping the awning and kept me up all night. Cooking is also tough with the wind. Overall I would stay again.

We have stayed at Camp Hatteras several times over the last few years. We all love the beach and enjoy camping. The kids have made friends with several other kids that return each year as well. This camp ground is very clean and offers lots of amenities. The bathhouses, pools and hot tub are clean and well kept. While the dunes do block the ocean view, they are there for a reason. Strong storms and winds often damange property so be don't complaint that they block your view; instead be thankful they are there!

We have stayed here twice this year, the last time being over Labor Day weekend. We camp with 4 children and while the campground does charge a little more, it is worth the money. The campground is large, we stayed on the ocean side and were in a cul-de-sac. Although we have stayed on one of the premier sites, I'm not sure I would call them premiere, you can't see the ocean for the dunes. Oh, don't play on the dunes, camp security will "get" you. Kids meandered up the dune, not intentionally, and the security gaurd came sliding up on his golf cart. He gruffly told them to get down. The pools are nice, the bottoms are not covered in sand and they are crystal clear.

Plan on going back next year. Money well spent.

The campground is very clean and well maintained but way too expensive. You are charged to use the amenities except for the pool. You shouldn't have too pay extra when you pay so much $$$ out. We choose to stay in our rig thinking we should save $$$$ by doing so. Well we learned that we would have saved money by renting a house. We had 2 adults and 3 kids. We were charged for the kids each. We travel with our Lab and was charged per day for the pet. Now to the security patrol within the campground--- they monitor your every move almost to the point that it is a pain in the back side. I noticed that at the enterance to the campground TV monitors showing views of different areas of the campground. We travel with a tow vehicle and we were at our site unloading and then the security patrol showed up complaining to us while we were unloading and setting up camp. Don't get me wrong it is a nice place to stay just bring the Armored truck. $$$$$$$$

Ocean sites have tall dunes between the ocean and the park so you don't really have an ocean view. The Sound Sites have tall grass so you do not have a good view of sound, except for a few sites at the dock which are excellent. It is difficult to get one of the better sites.

The park has high rates and also charge for each pet. By the time all the charges are added, you're paying over $60.00 a night in a non-premier site.

The park has cement pads and patio with paved drive and paved streets. Very nice and easy to level your RV. The bath house and laundry is very clean.

The park employees seem to do a good job. However, the office staff needs a little more training on dealing with people and the how to's in the office.

My husband and I visited the outer Banks of NC and decided to stay at Cape Hatteras campground. Our visit was from May 7th until May 11th. It was ok. They need to plant some trees. There were not many people staying at this time so they did not have the closet bath house to us open. They should of put closer to one that was. It is in Waves, Nc which is not close to alot of things. We had to travel to go anywhere. Overall it was nice place to stay.

This is a huge campground with ocean sites on one side of the road and sound sites on the other. However, there are tall dunes between the ocean and the park so you don't really have an ocean view.

The park has high rates and also charge for each pet. This I don't understand because our pets stayed in our rig and when outside we always picked up after them. I really don't understand the reasoning behind charging for each pet. Also, like many other parks you're also charged for cable. By the time all the charges are added, you're paying over $60.00 for one night. They do not have weekly rates.

The park has cement pads and patio with paved drive and paved streets. Very nice and easy to level the rig. The bath house and laundry is very clean. They also have free Wi-Fi but seems to have a little trouble keeping it going.

The park employs quite a few work campers who seem to do a good job. The only improvement I would suggest is that the work campers in the office need a little more training on dealing with people. Being friendly and helpful to people as they arrive is a plus in my book, and I feel some of the work campers in this park need a little more training in this area.
