On the Waterfront is definitely worth visiting while in Washington, NC. On a Sunday evening, it will be one of your only options given that the town shuts down early. That said, they offer a high quality of food and service. They do close at 7:00pm, so make sure you get in before then. The restaurant is popular with both locals and visitors.

There is an oyster bar and a main restaurant. The oyster bar is closed on Sundays, but you can get oysters in the main restaurant as well. You have the option of eating at the bar, inside tables and outside. Sitting at the bar is nice, as you get to have casual conversation with the other diners.

The prices are good and the food is great. They have a small selection of local beers. The interior is nicely done, and you have a view of the water. If you like seafood, I would highly recommend considering On the Waterfront.

On the Waterfront has weathered the storm of it's opening pains. Three distinct dining areas. Casual open air deck, linen table top upscale dining room and a casual oyster bar. Reservations only for tables of eight or more may keep some people away. Nice menu and well prepared food in each area. Lots of staff all around the place. Moderate prices for fresh, local fare.

Went with wife before the Beaufort County 300 year anniversary. Atmosphere was nice and food was very good and they got us out of there pretty quick. Got seafood and it was good and vegetables seemed fresh.

This was the old Pirates Pu...but don't let it fool you! The renovations are fantastic. The bar side, which houses a 40foot oyster bar in a noveau industrial type motif that really works...gives you the feel of being in an old warehouse speakeasy on the docks. The restaurant side has the feel of an upscale type bistro while still being casual enough to be comfortable in your Bermudas and Sperrys.
I can't tell you enough about the food. We have been for lunch and dinner, and everything was amazing. I'll say that if you choose ANY of their items that tout crab...you'll get plenty of it. The shrimp, even in the shrimp salad...are jumbo shrimp...fresh as fresh can be. Scallops are tender and sweet. Fish is fresh and expertly prepared. Soups are home made and delicious.
My lunch fave is the shrimp and grits, or the take three trio. Likewise for dinner, I enjoyed the Pick of the Pamlico which offered a choice of 2 or 3 entree items (all seafood).
FINALLY, fresh, delicious fish ON THE WATER! I have long said that even if we get people off the ByPass and into Little washington, they'd be disappointed to find a little waterfront town has no seafood restaurant!
Dessert menu is limited, but options change daily and are also home made.
Only downfall could be pricepoint. Dinner menu is basically lunch menu at a higher price. For two of us with one margarita (house, and very good...) and one dessert, bill was roughly $65. Just about the same for 4 of us at lunch.
Overall, it's fantastic. Outside seating is beautiful...so try it for lunch the next balmy day!

Three of us went there after a football game in Greenville. We arrived at 5PM when they opened. We went to the bar side (left) as we entered the front door. Ross, the owner's son, took very good care of us at the bar. After starting with drinks, he described their in-the-shell, charbroiled oysters and they were fantastic. I had the seafood platter with fish, scallops, and shrimp. All three were excellently prepared and tasty. I would definitely recommend this place.
