For really good, reasonably priced food this can't be beat. I have had lunch a couple of
times and dinner once and all were very good. The shrimp and grits with grilled okra are
yummy, the trout has a wonderful non-greasy crust, and the tomato, basil, and goat cheese
quiche is also luscious.
On a nice sunny day, be sure to eat outside and enjoy the mountain air!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Over Yonder restaurant in Valle Crucis, NC. This was our first dining experience there. We have been regular guests at the nearby Mast Farm Inn. However, for this evening there is no dinner served there. As a result, we came here and glad we did! We sat outside on the porch due to the perfect weather we had that day. The server was attentive and our food was delicious. I had the Griddled Pork and Beef Meatloaf with cheesy grits, butterbeans and cheerwine BBQ. Wow! What an interesting combination. I had not had grits and meatloaf before served together. My wife tried the Skillet Chicken-Fried Chicken with garlic green beans and whipped potatoes. We both enjoyed our meal and will certainly return to the Over Yonder. In sum, we were very pleased with our dinner selection and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the Boone, NC region.

This is a family friendly restaurant in a farm house steeped in history. We had 2 families each with 2 children under 6. The service was immaculate and the waiter was very patient with the children ordering and not phased by a last minute change of side orders. There is a vegetable garden out the back which they encourage you to go and visit which is great for children while waiting of the food to arrive. I had the Rainbow Trout with sweet potatoes mash and salad....... Delicious and although I was full I could not resist the yummy dessert menu. Very chilled atmosphere with Blue Grass music playing.
Thank you and we will return.

The 1861 Restaurant in Valle Crucis is now called Over Yonder now owned by the Mast Farm Inn. Have eaten there several times since it opened. Food is farm fresh, creative and tasty. Love the grits skillets and the gumbo. The atmosphere in the charming old home where the staff is always friendly and helpful. Will go back anytime!!
