Description: CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.

Great family style dining. The chicken livers and trout are excellent. The macaroni salad and slaw they serve for your first course is nothing short of awesome. I could make a meal from just that. If you like country ham, grits and redeye gravy, then this is your place. They serve hot biscuits, green beans and spiced apples to complete the family style meal. Empty your bowls and they are whisked away and replaced with fresh. The atmosphere is quaint. Big front porch with rockers that is situated on a creek bed. After dinner you can sit and rock and listen to the water rushing over the rocks. I've been going there since I was a very young girl and the food and service has not changed one iota down through the years.

Country ham 2 small pieces, small bowl of grits with teaspoon of red eye gravy. Will not return.
Country setting nice, but do not like to pay for the atmosphere.

We arrived at Caro mi to celebrate our grandmothers birthday. We had 5 adults and 2 kids. The children were enjoying the scenery after dinner and the owner asked us to leave because the kids behavior was not " Caro Mi " I've never been treated so rudely. We've enjoyed the food and atmosphere there for 25 years, but never again. Kids and families have always been welcome and it's shameful that the staff behaved this way.

We go there when we want good home cooking. Great fried chicken (best around) and fish. Limited menu that doesn't change, but you get very good value for your money here. Main dish comes with a variety of side dishes served family style. Pleasant front porch by a babbling stream if you have to wait for a table, but call ahead to avoid the wait. No alcohol served.

We always make reservations here as it is always busy. Only had a bad meal once--the steak one time just did not taste right. I love the pasta salad and my husband likes the cole slaw. Very vinegary. Remember no debit cards so bring cash or your checkbook.
