Description: CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.

I have been going to this delightful restaurant since young and have continued to these my almost 7th decade. In a mountain setting, easy to locate; family-owned and operated. You access it by covered bridge over a rambling creek. Rocking chairs await you on the front porch. Our church is going again next week (April 2013). It is spring, a beautiful time to go. They handle our 20-25 member group with ease. Family-style is fun and the food keeps coming. Reservations are requested and bring cash. No credit/debit cards. You feel as though you are at your own family's mountain escape. Menu does include nice selections and you do not leave hungry!!!

The Caro-Mi Dining Room is a destination, not to be missed. You park in their lot and walk over a covered bridge few short steps away. This family owned and run restaurant has been serving local folks great home cooking for years. The menu is short, but sweet. Fried chicken that even 'The Colonel' would enjoy, sauteed chicken livers, genuine air cured country ham, ribeye steak, brook trout, filleted at the table, and all the sides are served family style, all you can eat. Our favorite sides is the cold macaroni salad and the hot biscuits. Don't bring your plastic because they only accept cash and local checks. Reservations are recommended but are not required. When we drop by without a reservation, we either come early, about 5 PM. If ye have to wait, we sit on the front porch of this original log cabin, rock in the rocking chairs, relaxing to the sounds and view of the Pacolet River just steps away. The family dog is often on the porch to great visitors, it is a mature well mannered pet that is not pesky.

The Caro-Mi Dining Room is located in the heart of Pacolet Valley, two miles west of Tryon on Highway 176.

Caro-Mi is open year-round, Wednesday through Saturday beginning daily at 5 p.m.

Owned and operated by Charles and Annette Stafford, The Caro-Mi Dining Room specializes in "The Ham What Am", their authentic Carolina Country Ham. Their other specialties include pan fried trout, golden fried spring chicken and their chef's specialty, Pan Sautéed Chicken Livers.

Please contact them at (828) 859-5200.

Stroll back in time when dining here. I love the country ham and grits. They are also known for the fried chicken. Cash only.
