Description: CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.

First...this restaurant does NOT accept credit cards, so make sure to take cash! It is an old house sitting along a little river with rocking chairs on the front porch. You walk across a covered bridge from the parking lot to the restaurant. The little river is great and makes an excellent fall weather dining trip! For the menu, there are several options: a steak, country ham, fried chicken(1/2 chicken!), trout, shrimp...and can't remember what else! All sides are served "family style", with bowls of green beans, macaroni salad, vinegar based cole slaw, fried apples, grits with red eye gravy, biscuits and apple butter. The fried chicken is very good and it what I have ordered the most over the years. They do have kids plates if you ask...chicken strips, shrimp, etc. with fries or baked potato. The drinks are RC cola, Diet Rite brands and the are not refrigerated...poured straight from warm 2L bottles over ice! It's kind of a step back in time at Caro-Mi, but it's worth trying! Prices start around $16. They are not open every day, so call ahead and I would suggest getting there early 4:30 to 5:30 on weekends or better yet, make a reservation!

Enjoyed a delicious meal this weekend at Caro-Mi. Loved the setting on the river creek, Had the rainbow trout with almond butter. It was very good. Also, the biscuits, macaroni salad and coleslaw were good. Would definitely go back again. Service was friendly and pretty fast.

This was a very scenic spot and the restaurant had warm ambience and friendly wait service. However, other than their macaroni salad, biscuits and iced tea, their food was rather bland.

This restaurant is located on a beautiful river. You can enjoy the river while waiting for your table and rocking on the front porch. Homemade macaroni salad and a cole kraut salad are served while waiting for your entree. My entire family LOVES these two items. I am not a macaroni or kraut fan so it doesn't appeal to me. Country ham & fried chicken are served family style with green beans, cooked apples and biscuits. Trout and steak are also available.

The restaurant is located off a winding mountain road with a very bold creek running in front of it. You cross a covered bridge to get to it. The place has a limited menu and is not open every day, so check before you go. The menu has Delmonico steak, fried chicken, Trout Almondine, Shrimp, and maybe a few other things. You order the entree and then your table is served a very acidic but tasty cole slaw, biscuits, green beans, and fried apples which can be refilled as much as you like. Prices are about $20 per person, cash only.
