We stopped overnight at the Carawan's Motel before catching the morning Swan Quarter - Ocracoke Ferry in September 2008.
The owner was very friendly and greeted us in person when we arrived. She had left our porch left on and, before bidding us goodnight, made sure we had enough towels.
Our room was in the motel. The walls are cinder block, the carpeting thin and worn and the window-unit air conditioner wheezed all night long. That said, the bathroom was clean and the bed squishy but adequate.
I was amazed that there were not more options in the vicinity considering Swan Quarter is a departure point for the Ocracoke Ferry. The other disappointment is that there is no good coffee for miles! It would be super if the little store attached to the motel featured some basic, good coffee.
This motel is just adequate, but it's proximity to the ferry makes it useful and the friendly staff will make for a possible repeat visit on our next trip to the Outer Banks.
