“Family-owned pier great for fishing”
Review of Surf City Pier

We don't do a lot of fishing in our family, but my son wanted to try his luck while on vacation this year. My husband rented two poles, bought two 1-day passes and some bait and off we went. The prices seemed very reasonable. There were 2 guys available to clean your fish for you which I thought was pretty handy. My son only caught 4 fish that weren't big enough to keep so we didn't need to clean any. Thank goodness because I didn't really want to have to cook any. :o) The bait was definitely fresh. The store was small but quaint and it did seem pretty well stocked for fishing. It reminded me of the little store I used to visit with my grandfather when we went fishing years and years ago. There were no events while we were there but it looks like the pier hosts lots of them throughout the year.

The website is fantastic! It gives a detailed local weather forecast, low/high tides, and sunrise and sunset times. I especially loved the "fishing seasons" page that tells you which fish are in season, the best location on the pier to fish for them and even the recommended bait and tackle to use. It's much more information than I'll ever need but my son loved comparing his catch to the info on the website. He is already putting a strategy in place for next year. :o)

This pier has a rich history on Topsail Island and my hat goes off to the family who keeps it up and running for everyone to enjoy. I look forward to coming back next year.

It's okay, lol wear shoes or flip flops...prepare to smell dead fish and feel it sway...and don't forget the cracks between the boards! Love it. If you are squeamish, dont go on it.
