“Sea Trail a Diamond in the Rough!”
Reviewed February 11, 2008

Stayed at Sea Trail while visiting family in the area. The restaurant was redone earlier in the year and was wonderful! The food was outstanding and the best we have ever had at a golf resort. Great bar area too! We found the rooms to be extremely clean and our two bedroom villa was fantastic! Stayed at Champions area near Convention Center and it was wonderful. Internet access in room a big plus! Some family members played on the golf courses. They have three and are all very different. They loved them all. Staff was always pleasant and shuttle driver was a gem - he took us to beautiful Sunset Beach which was a very short drive. Weather was great for December and enjoyed a nice beach walk.

Would return without question.

We stayed at Sea Trails (me, wife, two small girls) because it is close to Sunset Beach. We are not golfers, so in a way, perhaps not qualified to truly rate this venue. The golf courses LOOKED very nice, though!
The resort is very upscale, clean and well-maintained. The staff was courteous but very very busy, this being the height of their season. The girls enjoyed the pool tremendously and the other guests were very friendly.
We stayed in a condo on one of the courses. It was very clean, upscale but a bit cramped. It was obviously one-half of a unit, the other half being separated by double-locking doors. If we had the whole unit it would have been perfect. The only other downside is that there are not nearly enough kid-friendly amenities besides the pool, and dining is limited.

Booked at last minute for Memorial Day weekend & suprising thyey had availability. That was the only pleasant experience the entire weekend. Somehow, my reservation was screwed up & they had me arriving on Friday when I was to arrive Saturday. The front desk staff charged me an extra night & said to "take it up with the credit card company".
The restaurant service was extremely slow, even though the resturant was virtually empty; but then the server rushed to give us the bill. The television wasn't working in the room. The front desk staff asked me how I booked the room (what does that have to do with the television?). Because I did not book directly through Sea Trail, I could not get anyone to fix the television. Finally, after making several calls, maintence came & fixed the problem (which took less than 5 minutes).

Sea Trail is a beautiful resort, but management and staff lack true customer service skills.

We're not golfers, we stayed at recommendation of family mainly to visit the beach. Everything was average at best.

The room was small. We did the mini-suite, and it was as big as a hotel room (I wouldn't call it a suite). Guest rooms are tiny. There is no Internet access in the rooms, I had to go in the lobby.
There was a dead cockroach on the floor, potato chips under the bed, and the toilet paper holder fell off the wall. Bed was sagging. These condos are all independently owned, so your results may vary. There's an on-site cleaning crew, but they did not come in daily, just when we left. They leave a bag of towels outside the room in the morning, so we had towels piled up we didn't know what to do with.

The beach is convenient if you go in the morning to beat the traffic over the bridge. After the bridge go straight ahead into the parking lot for free parking. Come back in the afternoon.

This "resort" was not what I expected at all. The "guest room" is VERY small and was not in the best shape. We were informed of no resort amenities by the hotel staff (restaurants, shuttle services, etc). If you need someplace to stay, this will be fine, but if you want the room to add to any part of your vacation experience, go somewhere else - or spend the extra $30 a night to get one of their villas, which appear to be much nicer.

It wasn't the worst lodging experience, but it was very lackluster for a property that claims to be premier. Check-in took forever. We were there for a technology conference and had been told that wireless access would be complete by summer. Wireless was only available in the bar and the business center. The room was fairly clean when we arrived, but over the course of the week, the housekeeping service went downhill. By the end of the week, we had no tissue paper and limited towels. We had to call maintenance repeatedly for clogged tubs and a dysfunctional telephone. Bugs were a mild problem at times. The restaurant on property was "ok" but not what I would expect at a resort. Lunch each day consisted of a salad bar and one soup choice. We watched gators sulk around the water near the golf holes, making us happy not to be on the greens at times. Several areas of the clubhouse/conference center smell of water damage and mildew. The tennis courts were in need of upkeep -- tall blades of grass were growing up between cracks on the courts and plastic, overturned furniture was randomly scattered in corners of the court. The beach area itself can be congested and inaccessible. Cars wait in a long line to cross an old bridge to get to the beach itself. Restaurants in the nearby area were overpriced and often had poor health inspection ratings. I suspect this property was much nicer 5-10 years ago. They are having a hard time keeping it looking fresh and current.

This is a golf resort that hosts a lot of conventions. If you want the beach you should stay somewhere else because you will have to wait in a car line to drive across a drawbridge to get to a parking lot ($5) to walk down the street to get to the very crowded beach. The property itself is showing its age. We had a serious ant infestation. The staff have a "who cares" attitude. The unit near us had a fire alarm go off - the front desk told the lady "it's probably the a/c" and hung up. The fire department arrived with firemen swarming everywhere to see where the problem was - you might think that the front desk would do something - you would be wrong. Overall, I wouldn't go back.
