While an otherwise nice course it was very disappointing that not one greenside or fairway bunker was maintained. They were hard as rock with puddles of water in some. While it may have rained a little the day before we finished our round at 3 in the afternoon and did not see any work being done on the bunkers. In the interest of fair play anytime someone landed in a bunker we had to rake out an area to hit from. Also agree with a prior comment about the starters and bag attendants. You drop your bags off and they just let you stand around wondering what is going on. There are lots of other courses around that are better maintained and treat you better. It didn't see like it was that busy that they couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Even the bartender was rude.

The Thistle is a first class golfing experience. I've played Thistel many times, and the customer service and conditions of play are always excellent. The course is not as severe as some other Tim Cate designs, but if the wind is up, it becomes much more difficult. A great design with beautiful natural landscaping. Usually a bag of range balls is included in the green fee. Very nice clubhouse that serves tasty pub style food. If you like to drink scotch they have a large selection of single malt.

Excellent conditions, one of the hardest golf courses I've ever played in windy conditions. This course would be right at home in Ireland or Scotland. An otherwise perfect day was marred by two factors ----- 1) the starter will not put your clubs on a cart and "let you go" until it is time to tee off. No practice, no putting warm-up, etc. What a crock!
2) The starter said "the yardage books haven'tt come back from the printer yet, but the sprinklers heads have yardage to the center of the green" Bullcrap! I defy anyone to play this course successfully without the used of GPS and/or detailed hole description ahead of time. The hidden pond in front of the green on hole #1 gets you right away!

My wife, father-in-law, and I played the Stewart and Mackay courses today. Both were in exceptional shape. The wind comes into play on every hole, more here than at any other course I've ever played. The greens were in great shape, but a little slower than expected. We teed off in the early afternoon and never saw another group. Seemed as if we had the course to ourselves. The staff was super nice, buit the starters seemed a little pushy. They give you a free bag of range balls, which have probably 15 balls max. We'll play this course again for sure.
