Motel 6 Statesville
Ranked #15 of 21 Hotels in Statesville
Reviewed August 5, 2009

If you like your stuff do not stay here! I was on my way back from W.V. to S.C. where I am currently stationed. It made sense to stay in Statesville given the proximity of where I was coming from and where I was going. I also had a seven month old so a one shot trip was out of the question. I will NEVER, EVER STAY AT ANY MOTEL 6 again thanks to this expierence. I don't care if my only other option is to take out a second mortgage. Steer clear of this place. It is off the main road and a prime target for hoodlum thieves; case in point: I awoke to my one night stay and I was off to find some coffee. I go to the front desk and there was a coffee machine so I thought well at least I will be able to function now. I poured the coffee in my own travel mugs and added the usual ingredients to please my pallate. I noticed after all this concocting the coffe was a pale gray color, not your normal tan after some cream and sugar. Nonetheless, I was off to the room to show my wife our bounty. After one sip I was done. I have had field coffee sweetened with dirt that tasted better than this biological agent. I know this IS a Motel 6, but for the cost you should at least be able to get some fresh coffeee. I digress, on the way back (with the coffee) I noticed the cover on my truck had been pulled back and there were two trash bags of dirty laundry on the ground. At first I had assumed that my beautiful bride had been out there loading stuff up. WRONG! I had been hoodlumized by the locals. Bad thing is I didn't notice anything was gone until I arrive home in Beaufort, S.C. and unpack everything. In the end they jacked me of one suitcase with about $500 bucks worth of stuff (mainly cycling shoes) If I would have spent the extra dough to stay somewhere secure I am sure I would be writing a different review right now. My advice is to spnd the extra money to stay somewhere else. I wouldn't let my pet flea spend the night here.

the desk clerk was rude upon entering, but all the motels in statesville were booked up this particular weekend so we didn't have much choice. the entrance to the 2nd floor was just an open stairwell with a door at the top that did not lock or even latch. the hallway was FILTHY. upon entering our room we found it wasn't much better. besides the stink, we found hairs on the pillows, blanket and comforter, and we found pubic hairs and stains on the sheets. some of the towels had hairs on them as well. luckily we had sleeping bags and pillows of our own so we nested in our own bedding on top of the bed. there were no amenities: no alarm clock, no phone. this wouldn't be a big deal, but this motel 6 was not that cheap.
we've stayed at motel 6 many times around the country and have had pleasant stays most times, but this one should be shut down. DO NOT STAY!

I reserved this property for 3 nights. I was attending a dog training seminar with my 2 dogs. I have stayed at Motel 6 in many states, on many occasions over the past 2 years while traveling with the dogs. On check in I asked for a room either on the end or away from foot traffic as I was traveling with the pets and they alert and bark when people are close to the door. I stated that I know that if the bark wakes me up it probably wakes the people next door so I would prefer a room farther away from traffic. I was given a room in the middle of the row of rooms. I also noticed a sign that said one small pet per room. This was not a problem as I usually only take the one in the room and the other stays in his crate in the truck. Parking was cramped and I was not able to park my truck away from the rooms to avoid the dog alerting as people came by the truck. On settling into the room I pulled back the bed spread and sat on the bed and noticed blood on the top sheet. I took the sheet to the front desk to show the clerk and she said she would usually have housekeeping come to redo the room but she couldn't speak the same language as the housekeepers. She did give me a clean sheet.
On the third night I was walking my larger dog that stayed in the truck and the owner/franchisee was outside smoking a cigerette. He saw my dog and heard my other dog in the truck, came over to ask me if I had 2 dogs. I said I did. He said he didn't allow 2 dogs. I told him one stayed in the truck and he said it didn't matter, that I had 2 dogs on the premises and he didn't allow more than one dog. He also said my dog was too big and he only allowed small dogs. I don't think he realized that there was a boxer staying in room 112 and a golder retriever staying around the other side of the hotel. He then asked if I was the person who said that there was blood on the sheet. I said I was and he said I was a liar and that there was no blood on the sheets. The clerk who had given me a clean sheet the night I took the sheet to the office refused to tell him that she had seen the sheet with blood on it. After all this he asked me to leave the hotel.
I went next door to the Best Western who treated me and my pets like the Motel 6 television commercial states it does. Motel 6 being pet friendly only goes as far as the franchisee who is running the place. This man was neither pet friendly or person friendly.

This Motel 6 is on a side road that goes way back from the main road. It seemed fairly secure--until we checked in and then found we had to drive around to the side and enter through some open stairways and get to second floor. There were no first-floor rooms available. These two open stairways access the dismal second floor, and each stairway, at the top, had a door that is never locked.

Our room was very basic and we heard slamming doors and a woman's terrified scream several times in the night, followed by more slamming doors, which awaked us several times. We were afraid to venture out into the halls, and we called the front desk who said they'd check it out. We also heard long conversations in the halls. It was not a secure feeling staying at this place. There was nothing luxurious about it in the least, but it wasn't that cheap for three people..I think around $70 or so.

The highlight was going to the Waffle House that evening. Being from the north, we'd never been to one. It was nearby, and the people who worked there were very charming and the food good and reasonably priced.

I booked this motel on our return from Orlando last Easter break. I based my decision on an article that I read in Frommer's Budget magazine regarding what a great deal Accor owned properties were.
Frommer's couldn't have been more wrong about a motel. I'll skip the more minor problems and get to the heart of the issue. In close proximity to our room was a soda machine. Several times during the night, other patrons used the machine. Because of the closeness of the machine and the cheap construction of the motel, I heard each and every one of them and was awakened each time. Statesville represented the halfway point on our trip home, and needless to say, I really needed a good night's sleep. When I informed the receptionist of my experience the next morning, he told me that the soda and ice machines were supposed to be in their own area away from the rooms, but they decided to add an additional room and simply put the machines in the hall. I contacted Accor and naively expected some renumeration for my bad experience. What I received was a letter thanking me for contacting them and assuring me that things would be resolved before my next stay with them. Ha! Never again will I stay in a Motel 6, and I encourage anyone to think long and hard before you make the same mistake as I did.
