Liked the wine tasting and chat with the host. Ask about Klondike's trip and Iceberg. It is worth the effort to fine Grassy Creek Winery.

Visited the tasting room on a whim after the folks at Elkin Creek recommended it. It was a short drive north of Elkin Creek. Interesting story of the vineyard and the prior horse farm. The tasting room was welcoming and you were able to select the variatials to taste. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed with any of the wines I tasted. I know this is all a personal preference but I found the wines had and odor I just couldn't get past.

We enjoyed our tasting with the husband of the wine making. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the vineyard. We tasted a 2 whites and 4 reds. The whites were good, but the reds were better. Of course, we tend to only drink reds. The tasting room is a converted horse barn. It's a beautifully decorated and contains a gift shop which features local art, jewelry and food. It's a unique experience with the tasting and local gift shop. We were very impressed with the husband. He talked us through the wine tasting and recommend other local vineyards which aren't highlighted on the map. In addition, he provided us with a card for 2 free wine tasting if we visited the other 3 vineyards on our tour. The card doesn't expire and all but 1 vineyard wasn't on our original list. All the vineyards on the card are located in the Elkin area. We were surprised by our purchase. We typically like a dry red, but they had such a unique semi-dry red, Ruby Slipper, we feel in love. It's also a cool story around the creation of Ruby Slipper (it was a mistake....shhhhsshh). Definitely worth asking to hear the story if you visit this vineyard.
