Great place to have a beer, plate of shrimp and look out over the water. Very casual place.

The Provision Company has delicious fresh seafood at really good prices. Their crabcakes and shrimp (usually THE SPECIAL) is my fav!
This is one of our favorite places to eat in Southport. Having read some of the so so reviews one needs to understand Provisions. This is not an elagant dining experience with gormet foods. Provisions is just a hole in the wall with plastic tables and chairs. The menu is written on two blackboards. That said the setting is just beautiful right on the intercoastal waterway. If you are there at sunset, you will be treated to a beautiful scene. During the day, you have a nice view of a small harbor and the intercoastal waterway. From a food perspective, our favorites are the peal and eat shrimp and the tuna sandwich. An order of fries or onion rings is a good compliment. They also have tomatoes and cucumbers in dressing that is good as well. From a beverage standpoint, they have a limited bar but they feature " an honor system" for beer and wine. The coolers are wide open just help yourself and tell the cashier when you leave what you had. Not many places left in this world that treat you like that. In the summer, you will wait but grab a cold one and head out to the dock for the wait. Its a nice way to spend 30-40 minutes. Again this is just basic good food in a great location. Just another note - to the left on the waterway is a little bar called the American Fish Company - again very basic but what a great place to have a few cold drinks and enjoy a beautiful view with friends.
This restaurant is really for tourists. The food is good, but ordinary and served on Styrofoam plates. Kinda pricey for what it is, our meal for two consisted of cheeseburgers and fries and two bottles of water which came to $19.00...................
Great fresh, local seafood. Crab cake, tuna steak, and peel-and-eat shrimp. Also have a great burger and fries. It is not fancy, and I will say I was concerned the first time a friend took me there, but the food is worth it. You order first, and then are seated to eat., but they are fast and servers are busy but helpful. Right on the water, so boaters come in regularly. Don't dress fancy -- not necessary. But you will not find a better crab cake or a better price (something are ~$5 a la carte). We go to Oak Island at least 2x a year and will eat at Provision 3 out of 5 nights. Love it love it love it.
