I'd eaten here with a group of neighbors last year and we'd had a great experience, But when we returned last night, we were very let down. Not only were the food selections even more limiting, but choice of wines is even more so. (The only bottle of dry chardonnay you can order is $47.00, for example.) Dishes are not what they used to be: the cheese plate appetizer was reduced in size, the house salad looking as if it were just a bag of grocery store greens dumped on the plate. There are NO green/yellow vegetables with a meal. One of us got the pork hock and said it was like stew meat. Those of us who ordered the seafood fetticini could hardly find the seafood in it--maybe because they ran out of shrimp before 8:00 p.m. Another who ordered a cake dessert received two tiny 1" chocolate balls and was disgusted. Waitress service was just adequate. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. It's too bad one of the few Southport restaurants capable of serving creative, great-tasting food is trying to price itself out of the market this way.

During my stay in Southport three of us visited this restaurant for lunch and dinner. I found myself enjoying every bite as did my two relatives. The food was served timely, presentation was pleasing to the eye and the taste and quality of food was excellent. The three of us enjoyed cocktails, wine, entrees and dessert and found delicious. The wait staff was attentive and the host pleasant during our stay. Of course, I would go again.

This restaurant has a nice feel when you walk in, but the menu is definitely limited and a little off-kilter. In you like good portions and straight up food, this might not be your place. If you like pretentious and pricey, sit right down.

Dear Sir:
It would help us understand your review if you inform us of the entree you referring to as pricey, poor portions and pretentious. We have taken the efforts to price our entrees according to market standards. As for the portions we serve, most of our brunch and lunch entrees come with sides. As for our dinner entrees, they come with a house side salad, 2 sides and a bread basket for the table at no extra cost.
From the day we opened, our goal has been to provide good and healthy food in a nice setting. Based on the 2013 Certficate of Excellence that TripAdvisor has awarded the bistro, we are achieving our goal more often than not.
Thank you for your review and we hope you will allow us to serve you again in the future.

We visited Ports of Call right after attending the Dickens Festival in Southport. They offered some themed menu items that made the evening quite authentic and very British. They are always friendly, quite attentive to your needs, and the food is delicious.
