“Quaint Southern Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

This is the historical home of the late writer Robert Raurk, beautifully preserved in every detail, If you are looking authentic southern charm and hospitality, Linda and Rick will welcome you into their home for and experience you won't forget. The host and hostess are warm fun loving folks who have been in the area for many years. The kind of Inn keepers who will help you with any request you may have. By far the best place to stay in Southport, NC. hands down!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 different rooms #1Robert Raurk room (A+) and also in the #2 Virginia Room (A+) as wel...

Thank you so much for your wonderful TripAdvisor review on the Robert Ruark Inn. It was so nice meeting you both! We enjoyed talking with you and chatting about North Carolina! You both have so much energy and looked like you were absorbing every minute boating, biking, walking, dining, etc. around Southport. We were sad to see you leave. We will, however, look forward to you staying again and/or you stopping by when you are on your next, nearby family island vacation!

Thanks again for the wonderful comments! You both take care! Have a wonderful July 4!

Linda and Rick went above and beyond all expectation when my family and I stayed there during my wedding weekend. The rooms could not be more comfortable, the yummy linens, soaps, shampoos and towels were all great. We hosted my bridesmaids brunch there and everything was fabulous. The Inn is nearby everything downtown and if you don't feel like walking chances are you maybe able to get Rick to drive you in their roomy golf cart! They know several people in town and offered all sorts of solutions to any wedding issues we were having. They have great outdoor space for eating and hanging out, and they almost always have some sort of goodies out to eat or drink. Lastly, the breakfast service always made us feel special and it was of coarse yummy!

Thank you so much for your review and comments on TripAdvisor. Rick and I truly enjoyed having you and your family at the Inn. We are so honored that you chose the Robert Ruark Inn for your family during this very, very special occassion. It was so nice meeting you, your new husband and your family. Wonderful people!

We have often referenced the "wonderful family" who was here earlier in the year for a special wedding weekend. It was also nice to be the venue of your bridal luncheon.

We wish you and your new husband the very, very best every day of your lives! We hope to see you again in the future. Please give our best to your husband, parents and grandparents.

Thanks again for the wonderful feedback and comments regarding the Robert Ruark Inn on TripAdvisor!

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn. The house is beautiful, clean and extremely comfortable. Rick and Linda are wonderful hosts, making you feel welcome yet respecting your privacy. The breakfast is very good and is a great way to start the day in a charming setting. We look forward to going back to stay at their Inn and seeing more of the area.

My original review somehow wound up placed under Cedar Island--so this is my second review. This inn is a do-not-miss. There is nothing wanting; it is beautiful, pristine, comfortable, and the innkeepers go to all lengths to ensure your comfort and pleasure. If you love historic sites, you are sleeping in one of the area's best-known locales--the home of Robert Ruark. Better yet, its renovation has steeped this place in luxury. The most amazing shower ever is in the downstair's suite. Food is delicious; but the hospitality is 5 star as well. The grounds are kept to a gorgeous standard and if anything, this inn exceeds any expectation you might have. If you want to fall deeply in love with all things Southport, make this your destination!

Room Tip: We believe all the rooms are equally gorgeous; we were late in booking and the remaining room was do...

Thanks so much for the great review. I love your last line "...fall in love with all things Southport." That is a wonderful compliment for which we are honored! We fell in love with Southport and the Robert Ruark Inn immediately. It is so nice to know that others feel the same way! We were hoping to be able to pass along that same feeling everytime we welcome a new guest.

After owning numerous historical homes, I will say the restoration of the Robert Ruark Inn is one to be admired. I can say that and be modest as the credit goes to the late Jeff Ward who put his heart and soul into every corner of the house. It is wonderful to own a totally restored Inn that preserves and honors so much history while providing modern conveniences.

Thanks, too, for the comments on breakfast! We enjoy that special meal of the day and want to make sure it is five stars plus for our guests!

Again, thank you, thank you for taking the time to give the Robert Ruark Inn (and us) a review. We hope to see you soon!

Rick and Linda's hospitality was absolutely wonderful. From taking us to the Bald Head Island ferry and picking us up on our return to their decadent breakfasts, they really go the extra mile. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour Rick gave us of Southport and riding the bikes down to the water front. We also appreciated their recommendations for dinner as well.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a review on the Robert Ruark Inn. It was wonderful meeting you both and introducing you to the Robert Ruark Inn and to Southport! We are also glad you made it to Bald Head Island. It is a beautiful place. I must admit......we almost feel selfish taking our guests to the Bald Head Island ferry. It is so much fun to charge around town in the Inn's golf cart. Plus...the ferry landing/terminal is such a nice place. And...most of all...it gives us a great opportunity to chat with you, our guests.

Thanks again for the great review on the Robert Ruark Inn. We hope to see you in the future and are happy we had the opportunity to meet you a few weeks ago.

Take care! Have a wonderful summer! Happy July 4!
All our best,
Linda & Rick

This was our first stay in a B&B and it was the best vacation we've ever had. The historic nature of the home and the attention to detail from the innkeepers makes this a very memorable stay. The town of Southport is quaint, idealic, and relaxing. Rick and Linda met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the town. They were very accomodating to my dietary needs both for breakfast and during the snack times. For a special anniversary gift, there was chilled champagne waiting in our room. The common areas in the house were inviting and relaxing. We used their bikes to go around the time and took them up on many suggestions for dining. If you are looking for a comfortable beautiful place to relax in, you have found the spot.

Room Tip: We stayed in Robert Ruark's room. Handsomely decorated. Large bathroom. A quiet upstairs room.

My fiance and I could not have asked for a better stay. Linda and Rick were extremely helpful, accommodating and generous the entire time -- sharing local tips to dropping off/picking us up from the Bald Head Island ferry to providing bikes to explore the town.

The house itself is a gem and they do an amazing job maintaining the property! Rooms are spacious, charming and detailed with perfection. The outdoor common area was also a great place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. And to top it off, Linda's breakfasts were delicious and a perfect start to each day.

Our best B&B experience yet! I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Captain Adkins Room is well worth the splurge!
