“Comfortable two day Respite”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

We found ourselves in need of a couple of days off, away from the everyday. We found it in Southport with Rick and Linda at the Inn. Rick gave us a little tour in the golf cart, pointing out the local restaurants and ferries. Everything is walkable in town, or you can take their bikes out to ride around. The Inn is a lovely old home in perfect restored condition. The Captain Adkins room was perfect with a little balcony. The bed was very comfortable and bedding and towels are luxurious. The bathroom is beautiful with a double vanity that is a beautiful piece of art and a shower that is generous and hot enough in a clawed foot bathtub. Breakfasts are elegant, great food and wine and cheese in the afternoon is a welcoming touch. Rick and Linda are warm friendly hosts in a beautiful Inn that is a perfect getaway! And when they tell you to have lunch at 'Baked with Love'-go! It is great!

Room Tip: I peeked-all the rooms looked nice and had fireplaces, but the Captain Adkins seems to be the larges...

My husband and I attended a wedding in Southport and stayed at the Robert Ruark Inn. Rick and Linda are the new owners of this property, and they are wonderful! They had a fabulous breakfast every morning and great recommendations for restaurants and things to do around Southport during our stay. We felt very much at home there, and Rick & Linda made sure we had whatever we needed whenever we needed it.

The inn is beautiful and very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It is in a wonderful neighborhood that is a very short walk to all the downtown restaurants and shops.

I highly recommend this inn for your next trip to Southport.

We were looking for a lovely getaway B&B with a relaxing atmosphere, great food and a few activities close by. My family and I hit the jackpot with the Robert Ruark Inn!! The gourmet breakfasts were wonderful and the accommodations were superb! We stayed in the Captain Adkins room and the Charlotte room for our daughter----both of them lovely! Linda and Rick were so gracious and made us feel so comfortable. Rick was kind enough to take us on a little tour of the town and had great suggestions for dinner choices. We did a little fishing during the day, perused the shops in town, and went and had a delicious dinner that evening --- all within walking distance of the B&B. We have been to a lot of B&Bs and this one was simply outstanding!

Room Tip: We loved the Captain Adkins room. It was beautiful with nice hardwood floors, comfy large bed, spac...

My husband & I came to Southport for the weekend and stayed at the Robert Ruark Inn. The Innkeepers made us feel like family and were very accomodating. The iNN is beautiful and everything in it has a history. Virginia's Room was the best, absolutely loved the shower. Breakfast was wonderful and got our day going. Rick & Linda gave us many tips for enjoying our day in Southport. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to visiting again very soon. Thank you Innkeepers!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Robert Ruark Inn for an anniversary weekend. We love the Southport area and have been visiting for years. This was our first B&B experience and we could not be more pleased. Linda and Rick were so wonderful and accommodating. They made us feel very welcomed and taken care of. Even though it was their first time hosts, they seemed like "old pros". Breakfast was delicious and just enough to get the day started right. The Inn is in a great location and absolutely gorgeous. The room we stayed in (Robert's room) was marvelous. We will definitely stay again some day and highly recommend this to everyone, though I'd like not to only to keep a room available for us.

First off, the Inn is gorgeous inside and out. The gracious host, Jim, led us to our room (which was the writer the B&B is named for) and we felt like we were staying at a very wealthy friend's chateau. The bed was comfortable and, after a great afternoon exploring Bald Head island and perusing the local dock restaurants, we had some of the best sleep ever. The tomato basil quiche served at breakfast was delicious enough to make us want to book another night. Unfortunately, they were already booked for several weeks as we came at the height of the season. Reserve early, you will not be disappointed!

My husband and I were pleased to call the Robert Ruark Inn "home" while spending several relaxing days in Southport. The Inn is beautiful and our room was just great. Jim and Terry are wonderful, accomodating hosts and made us feel welcome the minute we walked through the door. We enjoyed three over the top breakfasts, one with two of Jim and Terry's best friends, who shared some great Southport stories and history with us. I would recommend the Inn to anyone looking for a great getaway.
