“Great location...ok hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Let me start of by first saying how much I love the location. You can not beat being this close to a golf course and a short ride to the beach. The hotel rooms needed some updating but had ample space. For the price I would have like for them to be updated a little more but this was memorial day weekend and close to the beach. The continental breakfast was great and the woman who worked there was extremely pleasant. We were a rather needy bunch when it came to towels and other needs but each time we called the front desk/housekeeping was accommodating. I would definitely stay here again as a good option in a limited hotel market.

I was pleasantly surprised at my most recent find upon arriving at this hotel. Although it is quite an old property and has begun to show its age a bit, the staff here obviously work hard to keep the property in good repair. The night auditor who checked me in appeared at the desk to buzz me in without delay and was very personable and helpful. I requested a smoking room and she explained that the entire property is smoke-free, which was just fine. My room was a little dated, as is the rest of the hotel, but I suspect they're due for a makeover in the near future. Very clean and well-appointed, though. I did find it slightly odd that there was no phone on the desk, nor power outlets available near the end tables, but this wasn't the end of the world for me. My only gripe would be those terrible hangers provided in the room that are just a tad too obviously designed to prevent theft and almost impossible to actually use for hanging clothes, but I had brought some of my own and this too was quickly remedied. One nice touch that I was blown away by is that this property has windows that open in the guest rooms! How nice...and rare these days! Overall, the location of this hotel cannot be beat. The staff is great and the rooms are comfortable and clean. This property is a winner in my book. I'll definitely return!

Room Tip: This property is 100% non-smoking and has only two floors.

While we were visiting our family at Surf City, NC, we stayed at this hotel and would stay there again. It was very convenient to the beach house, and only 10 miles from
Surf City. Nice and quiet, and very friendly. The staff went beyond our expectations.

A great golf course is right next door.,

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

The Holiday Inn Express in Sneads Ferry is about the best choice in the Topsail Beach/Surf City area. Although there's nothing fancy or extravagant here, we found the hotel clean and well-maintained, the rooms up to date (with solid Internet access), easy parking and efficient service.

For an additional $20, we were able to update to a small suite, and it looked like our room was recently renovated. The hotel includes complimentary breakfast that was a big time-saver over going elsewhere.

There's not much in the immediate vicinity - especially restaurants - so be prepared to do a fair bit of driving for anything you might need, especially if it's off-season and many of the Topsail Beach shops are closed.

Still, for the price, I'd recommend the Holiday Inn Express at Sneads Ferry - probably about the best accommodations you'll find without driving to Wilmington or Jacksonville.

Room Tip: Definitely worth upgrading to a suite on the second floor.

a well-run typical holiday inn express...nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. good size rooms with basic amenities, excellent tv channel selection. breakfast as expected...don't expect anything more and you'll be satisfied. plenty of parking, easy to locate...nicely sited at the mainland foot of the topsail bridge.

Room Tip: doubt there is much difference in the first or second floor rooms...this is not a hotel with ocean v...

This is a nice clean hotel, pool area is kept clean, working. There is a large room where they serve a continental breakfast each day. Food is average, a bit greasy. The beds are comfortable. The reason for the average rating is that the guests are rude; they go in and out of their doors at all hours of the night and day. This is a problem because they allow the doors to slam shut each time; management does nothing to prevent. I find myself startled in the middle of the night because a door suddenly slammed shut (or afternoon nap).
Front Hotel staff very friendly and helpful otherwise.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the elevators; people talk loudly as they walk down the hall.

I gave this hotel five stars a few years ago, now I don't want to give it one. Employees chronically smoking at the front door, mattresses that are beyond their years, flat pillows, the entire floor and stairwell smelled like chronic body odor!!!!! Im not kidding, it was disgusting! We were given a handicapped room so we had unusually low shower heads and the hassle of pranksters ringing the "doorbell", which set off a strobe light in our room at inopportune times. We used the luggage cart to bring our luggage in through the dual set of front doors which was a task in itself. Multiple employees at the front desk watched as we fumbled and tried desperately to keep the luggage on the rack. You'd think one of them would have come over and held a door open. In complete honesty, I can't remember the exact date of our visit but wanted to post this so other travelers can be informed and ask good questions before they book the room. Hopefully some of these issues have been resolved.

Room Tip: Unless you need a handicapped room, make sure you don't get one. A can of Lysol and some nose pl...
