If you like home cooking, Cracker Barrel style, then you'd probably like Ken and Mary's. Not as good as Cracker Barrel but based on the same type theme. I'm not a fan of home cooking when I eat out so I've only eaten there once as a guest of someone. As far as the food goes, for what it was, it was fairly good. Good service, clean, family friendly.

Love coming to Ken & Mary's for their country breakfast. Good food, great service, and reasonably priced! Mary welcomes you to a table and Ken pours your first cup of never ending coffee! Great place to meet friends & family - seems like everyone knows each other, so the atmosphere is warm & friendly.

If you want the best breakfast in shelby this is the place to go...staff is friendly, the restuarant is clean and they have a big selection of pancakes, french toast, eggs omelets, and more.

We first tried Ken & Mary's for breakfast at the suggestion of a friend. We were surprised that their breakfast menu had such great specials for such low prices BUT be careful because 2 cups of coffee and one side item can add $5 to your bill real quick. The service is VERY VERY friendly and seems to be mostly family and close friends. We've eaten there about 10 times in the last month and their lunch buffet is really outstanding for the price! $3 for the choice of one of three meat entrees and then sides ranging from squash casserole (outstanding!) to mac and cheese (the real deal!) for only $1 each! For $5 you get a full plate of food and it's filling!
Sadly, we did go once right at 1 pm. They put their buffet food out around 10-10:30 am and it shuts down at 2 pm. There were only 2-3 servings left (pretty dried out looking) of most of the sides and only one of the three meat choices (again, dry looking baked chicken breasts). We tried not to offend the young man who serves (it's nice that the public doesn't handle all the tongs, only staff serves you) because he's one of the owner's sons BUT it just didn't look appetizing AT ALL and we were so looking forward to "lunch at Ken & Mary's." They should perhaps serve everything in the 1/2 pans rather than the full hotel pans. This way they could constantly bring out a fresh one. 3 hours is just too long a hold time, especially for meats and casseroles.
The service is very friendly and the owners are very approachable and make it a point to walk the room and greet you no matter how busy they are, even if you're not a regular!
We will definitely be back but not for lunch unless we get there around 11: 30 am like we did the last time we went. Don't understand why they wouldn't freshen anything up at 1 pm if they end it at 2 pm but given the economy and everyone's shrinking profit margins, it's probably a hesitation to throw out more food... smaller hotel pans will help!
Definitely try it and do have he french toast! It's so good you won't want to ruin it with pancake syrup! :-)

Only open for breakfast and lunch (closes at 2pm) and is cash only. We were short on time on a weekday morning, but needn't have worried. Our delicious, hot food came quickly. I hear that on the weekends you should be prepared to wait for a table though.

Their's was the best omelet I have eaten in quite awhile. It was fluffy and cheesy, just like I like it. Our whole party agreed that this was definitely a winner. This is not gourmet cuisine, this is regular cookin'. Pancakes, french toast, icy cold milk, all were tasty.

Our server took excellent care of us, making sure our drinks stayed filled and that we had everything we needed. She did a great job.

In Shelby, I would pick Ken & Mary's over the Pancake House, although for local (non-chain) breakfast spots, they're both good.
