Description: In 1978, C.W Hughes, Jr., who owned a paving company, and his wife Allison, a retired nurse, bought a small grill, motel and marina previously called Gregory's. It was located at the mouth of the Shallotte River and the Intracoastal Waterway. The grill had 13 stools around a bar and a small tackle shop. It was named Hughes Marina and home of the Poor Boy Shark Tournament for 14 years. It was a popular restaurant with the locals. It became home for Jr., Allison and their 11-year-old daughter, Samantha. For many of those years they poured their hearts and souls into the restaurant and marina. Their other daughter Amy and her husband John, both teachers, moved from Georgia to help. It continued to get bigger and attract more customers. In 1992, the girls took over the business, which continued to grow until they closed in 2004. On July 30, 2009, Sam and Timmy, her fiancé, opened the doors of Inlet View, a restaurant with a new look and an elevator that can take you to breathtaking views both from the restaurant on the first floor and a panoramic view from the bar on the second floor, which is surrounded by decks. Their dream became real with the help of friends and family.

“Off the Beaten Path - Well Worth the Journey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Based on a recommendation from a colleague, we decided to try Inlet View for lunch after coming back from the USS North Carolina. Butch said, "you'll feel like you are in the middle of nowhere - driving into the water, but then you'll see it." And we did, a great restaurant and bar perched at a cross section of the intercoastal waterway. Drive any further than the establishment's parking lot and your car will be 'sleeping wit da fishes.' Arrive by car or boat!

The building is lovely and literally perched at water and land with a handy boat docking area. Downstairs there is a sand pit for the little urchins and comfortable Adirondack chairs for parents to enjoy an adult beverage. Trek up the outdoor stairs or take the elevator up to the second tier dining area and another breathtaking view (3 sides) awaits. Dine inside or outside, but wait there's more...dine on the third floor in the dining room OR have your choice of ocean-side cocktail on the wrap around deck. If you're lucky, you'll be serenaded by the sea gulls or witness the spectacle of the fishing boats coming back in. The fresh catch is actually unloaded and processed, just a couple blocks away. You won't get much fresher than that!

Folks, I haven't even gotten to the food yet. The views and location blew me away! We were seated immediately and had the place virtually to ourselves (we were late for lunch, but early for dinner). Karen was our server and she completely amped up our experience even more. I can NOT say enough wonderful things about Karen. She is genuinely friendly, cares about her customers and has never met a stranger. If you ask her opinion, she will willingly give it and guide your menu selections to ultimately make your dining experience perfect! Karen is the embodiment of southern hospitality. She helped us picked our selections, as it all looked incredibly delicious (and it was).

We ordered the WIld & Spicy Shrimp ($10.95) appetizer and what arrived were the plumpest, juiciest and most clean-tasting shrimp I've ever eaten, tossed in a spicy sauce. Also arriving at our table was a complimentary basket of small hush puppy like creations which were eaten in 5 minutes, flat! The boyfriend ordered the crab-cake sandwich (sea burger for $9.95) and I couldn't get enough of the shrimp, so Karen suggested that I make it po'boy style ($9.95) and boy oh boy am I glad I did. Both sandwiches were ordered with a side of sweet potato fries, one fried corn and one slaw.

The food was so incredibly good that we couldn't stop remarking on it. We had been in North Myrtle Beach and hit all the so-called seafood places, but nothing compared to the freshness and quality of Inlet View. Furthermore, nothing compared to the environment or customer service of Inlet View. Southern hospitality at its finest! Karen made us feel so welcome that we roamed around the three tiers of the restaurant/bar, taking in all the beautiful views and even sat for a spell upstairs on the top deck. It truly felt like we were welcomed into someone's home. If you think I'm gushing, I am - because you simply don't this combination of quality, atmosphere, freshness and customer service. If you think I'm fibbing or exaggerating - check it out for yourself.

We spent about $58.00 for two people, one appetizer, two lunch platters and two soft drinks. Our service was so outstanding, that total included an $11.00 tip! By the way....I NEVER tip almost 30%, but this experience was worth it. Just thinking about it makes me want to pop in the car, drive like a mad woman for 10 hours and have another dining experience at Inlet View Bar & Grill. Oh yes, ask about the 200 year old Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana)!

“Yummy Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

The food here is very good at a great price. The hush puppies are the best I have had in NC and the best crab cake sandwich. We will definitely eat here again. The place has an awesome view of the inlet and very friendly staff.

“Bad service and food - good view”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

Our extended family visited this restaurant on July 24th for lunch. We waited at least 50-55 minutes for our meal and it was not particularly busy. Others around us that came in after we did got served and were ready to leave by the time our food arrived. I questioned the waitress a few times and even talked to the manager about our order. When it finally arrived, the food was lukewarm and not tasty at all. We were all too hungry to send it back, so we endured our late, barely warm, disappointing meal. That is the last time we will eat at this restaurant.
