We recently stopped in on a NJ to FL road trip. Myself, my three young children, and my husband enjoyed every second of our time there. We fed flamingos, learned about birds on different continents, and got some nice exercise/leg stretching on the beautiful grounds. We've been to a lot of animal sanctuaries/zoos and this is one of my favorites!! I highly recommend it - it is about 15 minutes off of 95 but TOTALLY worth the short drive through the countryside to get here.

Last week I visited Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park specifically to photograph ducks, geese and swans. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the North America, South America, Africa, Australia and Eurasia aviaries. It was a leisurely walk around all the exhibits. Even sitting on the deck of the visitors centre one can enjoy looking at hundreds of beautiful birds swimming in the Multinational Pond, around the water fountain and preening themselves on the little island. I did get caught off guard when one of the macaws kept saying "Hello" to me and all those who passed by. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. In the visitors centre there is a lovely gift shop and you can watch eggs hatching and birds emerging from their shell. I would highly recommend visiting this park to see and photograph and enjoy birds from all continents.

It's alittle off the beaten path but absolutely worth the effort to find it. It is an outdoor activity so don't stop when it's raining. Lots of various types of water fowl, some cranes, flamingos, parrots and some near extinct birds. You enter large areas with the birds. A great way to spend an afternoon!

We did a day trip with our grandsons. The collection of waterfowl is the largest I've ever seen. The staff is friendly and the ones I spoke with were knowledgeable. Expect to spend at least four hours.

Take a picnic lunch. The adults can take a break at the picnic table while the kids burn off energy in the play area.

With all the trees there is not much wind and the open areas can be hot in the midday sun, so plan accordingly.
