My best friend and I stayed at Hunt and Gather with our 4 daughters this past week. We normally stay on the beach side of Salvo, this was our first time on the Sound side.
The house itself is very unique. It has gorgeous wood throughout, timeless architecture, and is quite spacious. It features some really unique artwork and has a warm, welcoming feel. Additionally, nearly all of the house is a single level, except for the kids' loft, which we loved! The laundry room is right across from the kitchen, but got very hot during the day, so we had to keep the door shut.
The private pool and hot tub are just fine and in a nice setting. I think that the back trees need to be cut back, because they drop leaves and debris into the pool, but they do provide shade.
The downside is that the house is dated, the bathrooms are reminiscent of the 70's and could stand to be updated, the porch and deck areas are older, look like they haven't been treated in a long time, and are in rough condition. This represents a decent investment, though, so I can see waiting until the function fails to replace - the bathrooms were all clean and functional.
Now...the largest drawback...the kitchen. For such a large, spacious house, it is a galley kitchen. That wasn't the problem...nearly all of the dishes, pans, and servingware were in drawers...behind doors. Most houses have one or the other. This has both, awkwardly. Opening doors to find drawers was annoying. Plus, the drawers pull out and close of the shallow galley area. This made cooking difficult...and nearly impossible for 2 people in the kitchen, at the same time. We love to cook - always make large, family style meals at the beach, and got quickly frustrated with this layout.
Overall, we liked the house, but it didn't really feel like being at the beach because it had no water frontage or view, as it was on the sound and had a house behind it. We'll go back to beachfront next year, but qould absolutely recommend this house to anyone who doesn't want to be close to the water or cook much.
