Cabin Fever
Reviewed September 15, 2011

We decided to stay close to home to have a girls weekend away, and Cabin Fever fit the bill. Ma and Pa's cabin slept 6 (one on the couch) comfortably. The wrap around covered porch was wonderful - with rocking chairs, sofa and game table. It was too warm to use the wood burning stove, but wood was supplied, and there was also wood available for the outdoor fire pit. Picnic table outside, basic grill, fairly well-stocked kitchen, a bubbling stream off the deck, sunlight filtering through the leaves, and we didn't have a care in the world. Great outdoor pavillion for congregating a large group for bonfire or barbecue. We loved the horshoes, swings and zipline, and managed not to get lost on our short hike through hardwoods and rhododenrons. The cabin was clean, with basic supplies like a kitchen towel, toilet paper, bathmat and rubbish and recycling bags. We'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: There are a number of different cabins, different sizes, so choose one that fits your needs.

This cabin complex sets off Rt 176 in Saluda NC. Each cabin has good privacy except I would not choose the cabin that sits in the middle of the kids playground ;-). Four of us adults and two children stayed in the Ma & Pa cabin. I believe it is their largest cabin with a downstairs bedroom and upstairs loft. The a/c was a welcome addition. The kitchen was okay; nice refrigerator but the stove seemed to be incorrectly wired ( low vs high reversed). The beds were okay but remember to bring your own linens or pay $20 for theirs. We opted for their linens and they were fine.

Wifi is available but don't count on getting a signal in your cabin. The router is in the attic of the office which has a steel roof....so you can guess how far the signal travels. We were 200ft from the office and had no useable signal. Cleanliness was marginal with some resident cob webs and lint hanging around. Also, do NOT leave any food out at night inside the unit or you may have some uninvited four legged furry guests dining with you. But hey, it's a cabin in the woods....

We stayed in the Ma & Pa cabin on Memorial Day weekend. This was our 4th visit to Cabin Fever. We brought a young father and his two small kids, another close friend and our 7yr old granddaughter on this trip. Everyone had a blast! The kids wore my husband and friend out on the zipline, but they got even by scaring them half to death with glow in the dark eyes and going snipe hunting ( the woods were full of them and they love Doritos). We stayed the first time in the Birds Nest, the second at Buzzards Roost and the third time during a snow storm in High Top. Even being snowed in and having to carry our firewood up the side of the mountain didn't ruin the stay (we were offered a cabin near the office but declined). We just love the place. It is secluded and away from the noise and traffic but close to so much. Just a short drive to Hendersonville and Flatrock. Saluda is a very cute little town to spend the morning, though we didn't make it this trip. We did finally go to Carl Sandburgs house which was a lot of fun and to Pearson's Falls, a short hike and well worth it. Can't wait to stay here again.

Room Tip: No bad cabins. Kids may want to be near play are.

Everything we read was true. The perfect get away to leave the hustle and bustle behind.
No phones, no TV, no traffic noise.....just you and nature! Kayaking, hiking, white water rafting, etc....it was all great fun! And the cabins were secluded - but near a charming little town with local shops and restaurant that give me the feel of Mayberry. I have no doubt that one would not have to be in Saluda for very long before coming to know everyone by their first name. I can not wait to go back!

Our family of four enjoyed a fun-filled unplugged family weekend at Cabin Fever. We stayed in Ma's and Pa's cabin (each cabin has a "name") and found it to be just what the doctor ordered. The cabin was cozy (warm, not drafty--plenty of room), and what you would expect from a mountain cabin. Rustic furniture, a fully equipped kitchen, and relaxing porch with rockers to relax whilst the kids played in the ample play area below. The kids were initially dismayed to find that there was no TV (nor is there a telephone--cell service was OK), but quickly adapted to finding things to do outside--which was our plan: we needed to unplug and get back to nature and succeeded! The zip line was a HUGE hit and the caretakers gave us excellent directions to a nearby waterfall and short hike. The Town of Saluda is charming and has a few good restaurants for a meal out.

Cabin Fever is not a luxury resort, nor does it pretend to be. If you want family friendly, clean mountain accommodations, Cabin Fever is a great family friendly choice, with many different cabins to choose from!

Our family traveled to Cabin Fever a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. The cabins are well laid out amongst the trees. Our cabin set next to a small running creek and all the cabins provided a sense of privacy. The grounds provided plenty of exploring along with exceptional picninc areas, playground and even a zip line. We will definately be returning. It is also a perfect place for a big family reunion or multiple families to gather with each family still having the seclusion of their own cabin.
