The ambience in the Hotel Bar is great and so is the food. In fact it is very good and represents excellent value. Do go and eat there! But don't stay at the hotel. The rooms are small, badly furnished and filthy. The walls are full of cracks and badly need repainting. It's nice sitting out on the balcony because át least you aren't in the room. Breakfast is included in the room rate and is just like the room: very basic. The place looks great from outside. Enjoy the view, have a meal and travel on.

Room Tip: stay elsewhere

While holidaying in Perth my friend booked us into the New Norcia Hotel , North of Perth.
It was so old and grandeur with a wide staircase. Lovely antiques and very good service. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. No ensuites a bathromm down the hall. But it added to the experience of yesteryear. The food in the hotel was delicious and the whole atmosphere of the New Norcia Town was amazing. The town of New Norcia was settled by Spanish Monks in the early 1800s. There are only 9 monks and 1 novice now. Next time I would stay in the Monastry. People staying there said it was lovely. &80 a night including 3 meals a day. We had a private audience with one of the monks and he was delightful and had a very interesting and exciting life. The buildings are wonderful. The tour of the town was a real eyeopener to the talents of the early Monks. This is one not to miss. Going back one day.

Room Tip: Be prepared for basic rooms. Ask for rooms facing front of the building as you have doors opening to...

The hotel was built to accommodate visiting parents of students. It is an old style hotel, with shared facilities at both ends of the hotel. Ask for a room facing the balcony. It was very pleasant to have a cup of tea on the balcony, watching the sun set.

The rooms are very basic but comfortable. No tv, radio, clock or phone. A basic continental breakfast was provided. The only eating place was at the hotel or the roadhouse . Both had the same menu. I don't recommend the beef and onion salad as it was richly coated in mayo and too sweetly. The steak sanger and other meals were quite nice. Ask for no dressing if you don't want your salads plastered in mayo. There was no wi-fi, nor radio or tv. In the bar, there was a large screen tv and pool table. So if you are desperate, you could watch it there. I found the peace and quietness of the place really enjoyable.

Do go for a morning service, even if you are not religious. Do go for tour and the museum.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with facing onto the balcony. Also ask for one near the toilets if you don't fanc...

New Norcia Hotel has a captive audience. There is nowhere else close to stay of any quality.
The rooms were like being in a kids holiday camp. The furnishings were like they were from the junk shop. The paint was peeling off the window ledges and the windows were covered in cobwebs on the outside. No central heating - only an old oil heater. It was a very cold night. The communal bathrooms were something you used only as a necessity, old but clean.
It was like being in the wild west. I was apprehensive about dinner as well. The dinner was really excellent. We all gathered in the bar for warmth and it was cosy. The heater worked well and when we got back to our room it was cosy. There is no TV or entertainment. We went to bed early and slept in that little double bed like babies. The continental breakfast was quite good. I am glad we did it. It was cheap enough and it helps the Monks to keep restoring the town.

There aren't many places to stay in New Norcia so options are thin on the ground. The hotel itself looks like something out of Gone With The Wind and I think that's the last time the rooms were redecorated. You don't get ensuite bathrooms and the rooms are not the biggest in the world. It's pretty basic to be honest but the pub food on site is excellent and the service is pretty good too. Its also close to everything you need to go to. New Norcia is certainly worth a visit but don't expect anything glamorous. It's a glorified back packers so be prepared!

Need to get away from the world for a little while , this is the perfect place. Get back to nature and good old fashion Country hospitality.
TAke a quiet walk on your own around the River trail, Do the Guided tour around town and learn all the history of the Benedictine Monks and their adventures to settle the wild lands ( do a self guided tour not as good but great if time is limited)
Sit quietly and journal out under the trees or by the open fire in the evenings.
Rooms are basic but contain all you need, they are very clean and comfortable and staff are always avialble if you do require something.

this place is part of the Benedictine monastic town. The hotel was built, I think in the early 1920's, as a lodgings for the parents of the children who once boarded at the school. The hotel does have some disturbing cracks in the brickwork to go along with the old world charm. .. hopefully they are not structural. The staff were very attentive. The bar is quaint with a great ice cold local beer. The pub lunch was quick and we'll made cafe/pub type fare. The dining room next to the bar was empty and looked very original. There is a 2 hour tour of the benedicting complex which also included an offer to pray with the monks. Charges are A$95 a room including breakfast. Worth an overnight stay just because it is so different.
