Sandy Lake Farm Stay
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Being the closest to the Gingin Observatory and most accommadating place for children. Sandy lake was ticking off the boxes.

Our hosts were very welcoming and helped us out with plenty of helpful information on how to get to Sandy lake and how to make this easier with children in mind.

Kids loved all the animals and randomly friendly Kangaroos. Feeding the Dorper sheep and checking out all the other farm friends.

Although, for those people who are travelling through with children under five. The observatory, (now that we have visited it) i'd say, its safe to say the kids were to young to really appreciate it. But hey worth a try, fabulous night for it. Also i would diffently recommend staying in Abbeys Cottage if travelling with young children.

We stayed in guest wing of Farm house and although it was very comfortable and clean. Your shareing this space with the hosts and the other guests. This is a nice atmosphere, but was not what we expected. Especially with kids. There is also only one toilet and one shower to share amougst potentially eight people.
Great to have a cooked breakfast and see a bit of the gingin country side.

Room Tip: The cottage would have been ideal for what we had in mind. Privacy and independance, are helpful whe...

We very much appreciate your comprehensively review of Sandy Lake Farm B & B, thank you. We have considered guests option of 2 children to stay with parents in the family room in the B and B and have found this well utilised since we opened in 2009. Perhaps due to our proximity to the Observatory and guests requiring one night stays. We thank you for the suggestion, for guests with children to book Abbeys Cottage at Sandy Lake Farm which is self-contained. Guests must indicate stays of 2 nights or more or Abbeys Cottage may not appear as a choice of accommodation at Sandy Lake Farm.

We spent 3 nights and 4 days at the Farm. We were most impressed with Veronica and Mr Farmer ( my son call Reg). We were there to see the farm animals, however we got more than what we wanted. Reg and Veronica were very patient with our hyper active 5 year old and gave him lessons on animals and allowed him to pick eggs. the cottage was cosy and self contained 3 bed rooms. The wood fire at night and star gazing was something we don't get in Singapore or other cities we have lived. Wait till 11pm it gets even better. There were other activities around the farm, fishing, beach, etc. we are looking forward for next year's visit. Thanks for the great stay;) Ramesh, Rachel, Raoul.

Room Tip: Speak to Veronica cpand she will let you know where to buy groceries

Thank you for firstly choosing to book your holiday here with us in Abbeys Cottage and we are glad to hear your family getaway was enjoyed by everyone as we certainly enjoyed having you as our guests. Your little boy was an absolute delight running in the paddocks and it was fun to show him all the animals and how a farm operates in the eyes of a child. We look forward to your return visit next year should you choose to stay again at Sandy Lake Farm. Until then a very big thank you for this our latest review. ps Clarissa has hurt her leg and is down on the ground at the moment we had to move her from one paddock to another via the tractor forks, like a bale of hay, she was very good and did not move around we hope she is better soon.

After failing to find a caravan park at late notice within an hour of perth over the WA day long weekend, we stumbled over Sandy Lake Farm on google. We emailed enquiring about vacancies, and very quickly we received a response of availability. It is only an hour drive from perth, so was perfect for our first trip in our new caravan. Upon arrival, Reg welcomed us and showed us to our site. As soon as we were set up, our three children were invited to look around the farm and see the animals, and to their delight, their had been twin lambs born that morning. We had a lovely, relaxing and peaceful two night stay, and our children loved it. Reg and Veronica even organised a bonfire one night for their guests. Thanks reg and Veronica, we will be back.

Room Tip: If caravaning, you must be self contained ie own toilet and shower.

Terrific fun watching all the kids doing gymnastics on the lawns and playing totem tennis for hours, strangers on arrival they all mixed in together as kids do right from the start and had lots of fun and photo memories to keep on their ipods. Meanwhile glad to see the adults enjoyed quiet times to catch up,with their family, book reading and a wine or two. Please come and see us again soon.

We stayed at Abbey's Cottage for 3 nights - its a self contained cottage that's perfect for a family with young children. this cottage is fairly new, so everything was in good condition and the kitchen was well equipped. the beds are comfy enough as well. there's even a small playground outside for the kids.

Reg and Veronica were warm and friendly, giving us a ride around the farm on the tractor. we also got to 'race' on motorbikes at sunset, how romantic! Veronica let the kids go collect eggs from the chooks as well, which was fun. In the evening, we were serenaded by Reg singing classic old tunes on his karaoke machine. And we chatted with the hosts while the kids got some toys to play.

Sandy Lake Farm is in a great location too cuz there are interesting things to do nearby - we went to 1300 Trail Rides (highly recommended), mini golf at Caladenia Mini Golf Park, and hung out at Guilderton to watch the sunset where the river meets the sea.

All in, it was a great holiday that was fun and relaxing, and Abbey's Cottage is a sure-bet!

(We found ourselves in Gingin (25 April 2013) not knowing where to stay, and after a quick google were lucky to find a vacancy at this lovely B&B! It's very close to the observatory and gravity centre. Veronica and Reg were wonderful hosts, serving a potato and corn soup and vegetarian pizza for dinner, and then a creme caramel for dessert ($15 a head). Delicious! Lots of interesting conversation before we passed out into our very comfy bed. The room was clean and peaceful, with a garden view. We had a lovely cooked breakfast, prepared by our hosts. Thank you for a great stay :) (FYI the B&B rooms don't have an ensuite, so you share a bathroom with other guests. This may or may not bother you - we thought it was fine!).

Found Veronica & Reg very welcoming after arriving late. Reg's background music was very relaxing while eating a lovely impromptu dinner. A peaceful sleep in the country, great breakfast and then only a short drive to the Pinnacles. We would stay again and recommend this stay to anyone looking for tranquility.

Room Tip: Room overlooking pond wouldnt get morning sunrise so easier to sleep in.

Just stayed for 3 nights at Abbey's cottage, a self catering separate cottage on Sandy Lake Farm. The cottage itself was great for 2 adults and 2 kids (there was an additional bedroom which we didn't need to use at all), living space was good for eating and relaxing both inside and out and the kids loved the selection of swings on our doorstep as well. There was opportunity for interaction with the cattle, sheep, ducks and goose which the kids enjoyed. It was also very very close to both the Gingin Observatory and Gravity Discovery Centre, plus near to other local attractions such as Moore River/Guilderton - fantastic spot for swimming in the river and ocean, West Coast Honey, Gingin Waterwheel park for picnics etc. First time we had been to the area and we will definitely be back! The hosts were very welcoming and wnet out of their way to help; a very useful set of tourist information leaflets was included when we arrived for example.

If it is possible to give guests an award for interaction with all the events and attractions that were on in Gingin and Guilderton when staying with us, then this family is a definite winner. They thoroughly enjoyed the Gingin Shire free breakfast at Neergabby and the fun raising concert at Gabbadah Park plus all of the attractions mentioned in this review. Thank you for coming to stay it was wonderful to meet you and we look forward to your next stay when city life gets too noisy for the children and yourselves.
