A party of five for lunch on 20 April. Nice setting, orders taken with a smile. Sat down and when drinks were delivered the waitress unfortunately spilled a whole glass of wine into my lap! She was flustered, said a quick sorry and bolted. No offer of helping with dry cloth - we used paper napkins from the table. Replacement wine delivered without further drama, but no query on whether everything was OK. Food being delivered - my share platter was shared with my wife, myself and the ground next to our table! Waitress said a quick sorry, picked up the dropped items placed them in a nearby bin and disappeared. Thought we may have received the rest of what we had paid for, but apparently not. Seems we just had to be happy that we got at least part of we had paid for; and on that point, $32 for a very small selection of catering pack samosas, spring rolls, squid and some crumbed item. Our other guests were not overly happy with their offerings either. At the end of the meal I spoke with the manager of the cafe who appeared dismissive and ready to apportion blame, not accept constructive criticism. It was my intention only to give feedback; but after the cool reception and little in the way of an apology I decided that being soaked through and not receiving the full meal that had been paid for some consideration of the amount paid should be sought. The subject was broached and the manager asked what I wanted. I countered by asking what she thought would be fair only to have it put back to me for an amount! The manager was becoming aggressive in her manner of speech so I mentioned an amount equating to about 20% of the bill. Without a word she gave me that amount. We went to that cafe on reputation and recommendation, but will not return. If management is having a bad day it is not wise to take it out on customers. I went to the manager, as stated above, to provide constructive comment as I am a former cafe owner and would have liked to have quietly been made aware of issues at my establishment. But to be dismissive and not accept responsibility is bad management
