Esperance Bay Holiday Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 24, 2013

Esperance is by far the most beautiful place we have visited. We booked into a deluxe unit for 3 nights and after the first night there we decided to spend our whole trip there. We were given a great deal on the unit for another 4 nights, the hospitality Nigel and Naomi showed us was fantastic. They pointed us in the right direction for what to see and do and some great fishing, and our kids made best friends with their son Hunter. He kept them amused and occupied which also gave us an opportunity for some quality time which was great. They knew the best food spots and the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. All in all it was the best family holiday we have had thanks to Nigel and Naomi and their hospitality, we can highly recommend this park and town to all who travel.

Room Tip: The deluxe units are great value for a family of 4

First things first - if you love your sleep then this isn't the park for you. But if you can get over the noise then it's a great little park in a perfect position.
The park is opposite the port and the road leading to it so you get truck and train noise at all hours of the day and night. The compression braking from the trucks and horn from the train will awake even the deepest sleeper at 4am! There was also a lot of work going on with the Waterfront development when we were there so that added to the outside noise (we stayed for 7 nights and had got used to the noise by the end of our holiday).
However....noise aside you couldn't ask for a better spot for a family holiday. It is across the road from a good swimming beach, you can walk into town for a coffee or to see a movie, and there is even a corner store close by where you can get your bread, milk, paper etc.
We had a powered camp site and found we had lots of room to spread out. The price was pretty good and there was heaps of shade, plus the site was level and easily accessible.
Park facilities were good - the toilets/showers were very good actually. Well maintained, modern, clean and the showers were great! The camp kitchen was very small, however, and dated. We hardly used it because of this.
There was a barbecue area but only one bbq, which could cause a bit of a lineup at dinner time. A second bbq would have been handy. There is also a tv room for those who can't go without their xbox or favourite television series.

We'd been on the road for 10 weeks having done Tasmania and S.A. and were now heading home for W.A. As we were nearing the end of our budgeted funds, we needed sites that were value for money. It was January and school holidays and every caravan park in Esperance were charging exorbitant rates of $55 to $60 a night for a powered site except Esperance Bay at $38 so we booked. My wife then read a couple of reviews on this site, one which said that the sites were small but we figured that we'd already stayed on some small ones and they couldn't be any smaller and one that said about the train noises from the railway track close by but as we live in Waroona and hear trains all of the time anyway, we thought that would be quite nice, like being at home.
When we arrived, the site allocated to us was very tight and we had to avoid a tree one side and a chalet ON the other and they were a little on the smaller size but not drastically so. However, Nigel (I'm not sure if he is the Owner or Manager) offered to guide my reversing in to the site. I'm fairly novice at all this but it was the best piece of precision reversing that I've ever done because of Nigel's superb, explicit instructions. Then we had a problem getting a TV signal (a common problem in Esperance apparently) but Nigel came out and lent us a pair of rabbit ears and got perfect pictures on every channel. Next day, Nigel lent me a ladder so that I could check my aerial but in the end, all it was is because the site is so close to the communications tower, that you don't need your booster switch on. The only downfall was the noisy roadworks going on nearby but that wasn't the caravan park's fault. Apart from that because of value for money and the outstanding customer service from Nigel, I would thoroughly recommend this site.

We stayed at the park for 4 nights, on a powered site. Sites where small, but acceptable, some had concrete pads, this was great for the annex. Facilities where clean and tidy, but the washing machines could have been cleaned more regularly, 3 out of 4 had a lot of sand in it, so when you washed your clothes, they came out covered in sand. The only real downside for us was the constant notice from the nearby port, the comings and goings of the trains all through the night, blowing their whistle. Otherwise we where very happy.

Stayed in the 2 bedroom unit for two night. Was nice, clean and tidy. The main bedroom was a decent size but the second bedroom was on the smaller side as it had one bunk bed in it. The location was fantastic and you were only a short 10 minute walk from the main street.

We stayed in the park in our motorhome for one night. Initially our bays where mixed up and we had to go to another bay. Space to drive around & move is very tight in a larger styled motorhome; and I would not recommend bringing a caravan. Toilet's where very clean and quite modern. Rubbish bins where scarce, and only located in the very front of the park.

Room Tip: Bays / Rooms on the far left side away from the roads are the best & offer more manoeuvring room...
