Had a great time wandering around the Asylum. Amazing to think that it was once home to so many people. I dread to think of how some of those were treated, both patients and staff. Just a shame that our group had too many people in it, and sometimes hard to hear all the guides had to say.

We had such a great time wandering the abandoned halls of the Aradale asylum. The tour guide balanced facts and fun, wasn't too scary but that might have been because there were plenty of children on the tour. I'm a bit of a skeptic but inside those walls you really will feel (and see!) things that can't be explained. Photographs we took and looked at later were full of eerie faces and orbs and many people were reporting seeing and feeling the same things. A must-see for ghost enthusiasts.

This was a very interesting tour with friendly and knowledgeable guides. The Asylum has a peculiar atmosphere, some strange parts in its history and is certainly a thought provoking place.
Good for photography, I would recommend use of tripod for indoors.

Night tour and day tour facts did not line up! The night tour is more theatrical, with some historical bent and the day more historical. There were gaps in both stories, lets get it right. The physical location and buildings are awesome, yet the care, conservation and preservation of the buildings, infrastracture and, outside of the area under NMIT, is appalling giving the relevance to the history of Victoria and the goldfields. It would be shame if the history and the memory of those who worked and were confined there were lost. Maybe we need to take a leaf out of Port Arthur, England, Europe and the US in preserving historical locations. ARADALE deserves a permenant place in Victoria's history. It is worth the visit...

What a fantastic insight to years gone by.Our host was exceptional and full of knowledge and also dressed the part. You could really feel the atmosphere of doom gloom wailing crying and despair.
On reflection I would have liked to sit in the dark in one of the rooms(in the group of course) for about 10 minutes just to absorb the atmosphere in my inner space.Wow,can feel goosebumps at the thought.
So if you visit Ararat this tour is a must, then follow it up with J ward tour.
What a town it must have been in the old days.
Lunatics overlooking the town and criminally insane living in J ward in town.
