Stayed here on business, and happy I did. Room was modern, clean and tidy with fixtures and fittings to make stay comfortable.
Room was a little smaller than normal, but there was plenty of room for one. Being winter and cold the size was possible a advantage for heating, although the heating/cooling was of good specification?

I will stay here again next time I'm in Arrarat as I believe it is by far the newest and cleanest in Arrarat

Room Tip: Maybe best to stay in room towards the back as there are many trucks through the night, however the...

On the edge of town on the western side of Ararat, the Chalambar is a good little motel. The rooms are small in size but very comfortable with very modern fittings. The hosts were very genial and I had problems at all. It's only a quick drive into town for dinner. I'd stay there again with no hesitation. They are on the main highway so there is interstate truck noise all night, but most of the rooms are well back from the road and have reasonable noise insulation.

We stayed here for 1 night while in Ararat for a Ghost tour at J-ward.
It was a great little place to stay. The owners are lovely and very friendly. The accommodation is clean and modern. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. We will definitely be back when staying in Ararat next. Thanks very much for your hospitality.

Have stayed in Ararat a couple of times for work, this jaunt was a bit longer at nine nights. Chris and Iain at the Chalambar showed us the best in hospitality. The rooms are the best value you'll find locally, nice and modern and have everything you need for a short stay. TV, micro, wifi, a/c. As close as it is to the highway and rail, the trains don't run late and the highway noise is not particularly obtrusive. Comfy beds make up for a lot.

Tip: go for a walk in the beautiful (almost) local Ararat park, and visit some of the great historic wineries such as Best's while you're in the area!

Frankly I chose the Chalambar Motel based on price while travelling around the Grampians region. It ticked all the right boxes - clean, comfortable, safe, and generally had the appearance of being well looked after. No one's pretending it's five-star luxury, but I was very happy with what I got for the price. The only negative is it's right out on the edge of town and there's not much around, so you tend to go out and get in your car rather than walk (I personally like to walk when I visit a new town). But it's only a short drive into town, and you could walk it if you wanted to.

It's on the highway with a lot of big trucks going through, even right through the night, but traffic noise really wasn't an issue. I didn't eat there, so cannot comment on that. I only stayed one night, but wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if back in the area. In fact, even though I was 'on the move', I actually considered extending my stay to a second night I was so happy with the value I was getting.

Pros: clean, comfortable, safe, and good value for money.
Cons: right on a major highway and a bit out of town.
Verdict: definitely worth staying at if you don't need to be in the middle of town or don't want to waste money on more expensive options.

Stayed one night before visiting the Grampians.
The rooms were refurbished, clean and comfortable but small and the owners were very helpful and friendly. On the northern outskirts of Ararat , set back from the Western Highway.
