Description: THE STORY BEHIND 1918 The Great War was drawing to a close when Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent put the finishing touches to his fine home in Murray Street, by chiseling the date in the foundation stone by the front door. His son Morris later became the mayor of Tanunda and took over the family home. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa's first bistro grill - a friendly and generous place where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day's wine tasting. In 1998 Tanya and Sid King visited 1918 as guests 17 years later, in 2015 the opportunity arose for The King Family to be the new custodians of this fine home of Barossa Hospitality. They are passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine, accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa's best and iconic Australian and International wineries - but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle. What you'll also find is a youthful passion and buzz, modern Australian tastes and flavours that are borrowed from Asia and the Middle East, and a genuine willingness to please.

It looked Nice from the street so we entered ! Warm welcome though it was getting late.
Excellent and refined food, efficient and friendly service and, as one could expect good wine list
From the Barossa valley and other areas.
The weather was warm and we ended up with a table in the garden, surrounded by winemakers and their overseas guests which comforted us with our choice.
A good restaurant and a lovely evening worth every cent !

Being a pleasant summers day, we took the option to have lunch in the garden of 1918 during a recent visit in Tanunda.
Exceptional service and food convinced us that we had made the right choice and the restaurant filled quickly by locals (including some local winemakers) who seem to frequent this lovely venue.

We enjoyed a very nice evening at 1918 with a group of friends who had travelled to the Barossa for the weekend. The food was excellent and the waiting staff were very pleasant and well informed about the menu. We took our own wine from a winery visit earlier in the day and the corkage charge was minimal. Overall it was a very good experience made more so by the wonderful attitude of the staff.

Good location in tanunda, small intimate feel, good food with a bit of a twist. Allowed boy which was great as we had splashed out at the winery that day!

Four of us thoroughly enjoyed lovely atmosphere, excellent service and very delicious food. Luckily able to get in at last minute even though it was a holiday.
