“Superb cottage”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

We stayed in Hideaway Cottage which was beautifully set up and equipped with everything we needed. The breakfast provisions were most generous and we appreciated the additional extras of wine and port. The situation of the cottage between the vines and the lake was ideal for relaxation....and for watching the ducks! It was also easily located for sightseeing in the area. Would love to stay there again.

My partner and I stayed at cupids cottage for one night. Beautiful surroundings, ducks were the added cute bonus coming to visit us in the morning! The coffee machine is awesome and the bed was divine! The spa bath was nice and so was the selection of DVDs to snuggle up and watch on the couch. Breakfast was generous, so no problems there. The overall experience was fantastic, although it was very expensive for one nights stay. Would love to stay again though!

What a hidden gem Stonewell Cottages are. We stayed in the Haven Spa Retreat 2, and while it adjoins Retreat 1, we still felt very secluded. The attention to detail is second-to-none, with everything you can think of to make your stay easy. The complimentary extras were very good, as were the extremely generous breakfast provisions. I don't think I've had better anywhere else. Ever!

Just 4.5km out of Tanunda, the location puts you very central to most of the attractions. The only downside is the cottages are in a bit of a valley which made mobile reception very hit & miss (which we normally wouldn't have minded except for having a family member in hospital at the time).

The ducks are an obvious favourite and caused much amusement throughout our stay. Next time we're considering a cottage, because we'd definitely come back.

We stayed in Cupid's Cottage which stands alone, surrounded by gardens, vines and looking out on to an artificial lake. The lake is home to many ducks and other visiting birds who spent a good portion of the day "chatting" to each other. With little provocation, they will also visit the cottage for a feed (bread provided). The gardens around the cottage are well maintained and there is plenty of room for parking. A walk around the lake is a quick and pleasant way to spend an evening and for those that are adventurous, a small rowboat is provided to Multiple chairs and tables scattered around the cottage mean you can (weather permitting) spend a great deal of time including for meals. Our recommendation is to use the recliners located near the water's edge for stargazing at night.

The cottage itself is beautiful from the outside and very well featured on the inside. Good facilities for cooking, including a BBQ, and excellent breakfast provisions. The owners also went out of their way to cater to our dietary needs. Complimentary wine, chocolates, port make you feel spoilt. The bedroom has excellent mattress, and a comfortable recessed spa bath - need I say more.

Whilst we spent our time sitting outside watching the day slowly pass with a glass of champagne, readers should also be aware that the cottage sits very much in the heart of the Barossa region with quick access to world class wineries, food producers and country towns.

This is our second (or maybe third?) stay at Stonewell over many years and they have maintained a high quality standard of service and accommodation. Our thanks to the owners :)

Room Tip: Cupid's cottage is probably the best bet as it is separated from the other 2 dwellings.

A beautiful and tranquil getaway right in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Not as difficult to find as we envisaged and heled by text directions from the owner. Great cottage with everything we wanted. Double spa bath great for romantics with candles, chocolates & port to enjoy. We had one of the platters for the evening to save going out. Good value as was the breakfast and coped with my wife's dietary requirements (veggie & coeliac). Sufficient food left over from the breakfast pack for us to make lunch!

Duck food provided for e ducks on the lake. We only had one - could have had two to enjoy the wineries. The owner recommended the Hently Arm estate to visit - worthwhile

Nice location and comfortable. Spotlessly clean, very generous and delicious breakfast hamper. Good to be able to go for a walk around the vineyard, watch the roos and walk off some of the calories from indulging all day in the beautiful Barossa. It is not perfectly peaceful, as there is some traffic noise, which affects the Spa Haven Retreats outside sitting areas.

The price pushes value to the limit and small things that ordinarily we would overlook, niggle when paying these kind of rates. We would consider staying here again, but would not return automatically.

In Ocober 2012 we needed a break and found Stonewell Cottages Hideaway cabin. This was a memeorable holiday and we were pleased at the location, atmosphere, cleanliness and the fact that little considerations were everywhere and that we were made to feel so welcome - Thank you for our wonderful break and an extra special time. We will be returning as this was a perfect place for a relaxing break but so close to so many great wineries and food experiences. A true jewel in the Barossa and one of the best places we have stayed, we have stayed in many different places across Australia and the world and this is one of the top places.
