“Great location with lovely hosts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights in the Jacaranda room, which was upstairs, quite private and very spacious. If you have any back issues, take note that the king-size bed is very soft, if you are OK with that you'll love it. Judi and Lee are a very helpful couple and and a sumptuous breakfast was served each morning. Its a lovely old house, with an old character and memorabilia around the rooms, also Lee has show cased his gardening skills, with beautiful flowers blooming everywhere.
If you are interested in vintage Chevrolets from 1911, we stumbled upon them next door in the Junction Motel, up to 70 working cars, worth a look. We had a lovely time thanks Judi and Lee

We have only stayed at a small number of B&B's and found this to be a warm, charming place. We loved all of the antique furniture and even had the pianola playing which my husband had never seen before. We actual felt very much at home and the Proprieters (Judi and Lee) could not do enough to help make our stay even more comfortable as, unfortunately, my husband and I both had the flu - we were even offered lemon and honey drinks!!! The room was comfortable and I loved that there was port and wine to drink for our pleasure - the lounge area had a gas fire and even tasty nibbles from Angas Park (love the sugar coated peanuts). Breakfast was superb and cooked to our liking while we sat in the dining room chatting either between ourselves or with the Judi. There was even ducklings which had just hatched and were cute and fluffy! We will definitely return as we truly enjoyed our experience - see you soon Judi and Lee.

Room Tip: The bed was comfortable and it was very quiet, even considering that all rooms were booked on the fi...

This was our first B&B experience having always stayed in motel accommodation, we were extremely happy with our 2 night stay. The accommodation was excellent and the homecooked breakfast was delicious, we went on the wine tour that was included with our cost and had a great day, it was very informative, and nothing was a problem, we would definately stay again, thanks Judi and Lee :-)

Very friendly hosts, great breakfasts and clean and comfortable room. The location was great, 4 km. out of Tanunda among the vines. Lots to do in the surrounding areas. Our room was well serviced and a pleasure to get back to after a hard day touristing.

We booked Barossa House after reading all the positive reviews - I feel we must have gone to the wrong address! For $170 per night - this does include breakfast - we would have expected our bed to be made and towels replaced if necessary and at least the one cake of soap replaced for a 2 night stay. This doesn't happen - with such cramped and tiny bathroom it is impossible for towels to dry so as is the usual custom with Hotels or B&Bs we put ours on the floor to indicate replacement required - the wet towels were just hung up and the bed linen just pulled up on one side of the bed! It would have been preferable to just leave it. Contrary to other reviews we were told there was a 7 day Cancellation Policy - 24 hours is quite acceptable, surely 7 days could not be enforced. We were unaware that the Proprietors do not live onsite but fortuitously we had called the morning of our reservation to confirm our booking and to ascertain Check-In time - the Proprietor was about to depart on an organised Wine Tour and would not have been onsite for us to check-in. He did then leave a key so we could access the property - had we not made that call we would have waited at least three hours. Overall we were quite disappointed - we do not feel Barossa House is value for money, especially when we now read other Guests paid less for bigger rooms (we had the smallest) and also that online tonight it is advertised as $125 per night - we left today having paid $170. Based on previous Bed and Breakfast establishments we have used in NSW, VIC and WA this would be regarded as below standard expectations.

Room Tip: Do not choose the Photinia Room

Thank you for taking the time to give your feed back and we are sorry to hear that you feel so upset with your experience at our B & B.
It is with disappointment that I am answering your complaint through Trip Advisor. I have tried to ring you personally many tiimes on your mobile with no response.
My wife and I pride ourselves in running a clean, comfortable Bed & Breakfast and we have good communication with our guests. We are both very concerned about your comments and would like to offer some background. On the morning of departure, breakfast was requested for 7 am. I cooked breakfast and during this time, not once did you complain or seem unhappy.
In answer to your concerns:- The $170 does include a fully hosted cooked breakfast, with choices of cereals, fruits both cooked and fresh, orange juice, tea or coffee and an English breakfast. Our rooms have queen beds, R/C air conditioning, TV/DVD, fridge, complimentary Port, Red wine and chocolates. The sitting room that is for guests to use also has a TV with Foxtel. Our room rates are from $170 to $235, not $125 as you have stated - not sure where that has come from.
On the first day, I was responsible for checking your room as my wife is a nurse and had to work. I picked up the towels and hung them on the hooks provided in the bathroom. There were 2 spare towels on the rack in the bathroom. I tidied the bed to make it look respectable.
The cups and glasses had been left in the lounge room so they were washed and put back on the tray in your room.
We do have a 7 day cancellation policy, but understand times of sickness or emergencies require a refund.
We live 3 minutes away from the B &B and make every effort to meet our guests on arrival but in some cases, due to our other commitments, we need to leave a note on the door with instructions for keys. We certainly would never leave someone waiting outside for 3 hours.
We pride ourselves with 5 Barossa Tourism Awards over the past 11 years and feel very disappointed that you view us as below standard.
I will still try to contact you over the next 7 days to talk about your disappointments and offer a one night refund.

This is a very handsome old place more or less surrounded by vines – Wolf Blass vineyards are across the road and provided a very pleasant outlook from our front ground-floor room and from the breakfast room. Service was excellent in every respect, including catering for our late arrival on Friday night. There seem to be two rooms in the old part of the house, plus a newer upstairs addition and a room at the back. We had the front room, Photinia, which was large and welcoming (and didn’t hear a single car go past – it’s very quiet). The size of the bathroom, which was a negative in one of the TripAdvisor posts I read, wasn’t a problem for us – we wouldn’t call it ‘tiny’ as they did. There is also a very cute old-fashioned sitting room with (slightly temperamental) gas fire for guests’ use, and bottles of tawny port are provided.

We ate at FermentAsian which we thought was wonderful. The wine list contains a warning that it can lead to marital disharmony – it’s so fascinating to read! We would love to have eaten there on the Sunday night as well as Saturday, but unfortunately it wasn’t open Sunday evening – a great disappointment.

Although I really liked Barossa House, I would also consider staying in Angaston next time – maybe at Marble House which has a wonderful location on a hill at the edge of town, or at one of the pubs if they offer reasonable accommodation options. Angaston is a lovely village, quite well preserved and historic, and I would have liked more time to walk around it. Worth visiting over Angaston way is Taste Eden which showcases a number of Eden Valley wineries that don’t have their own cellar doors. The owner was on duty the Sunday we visited, and she was exceptional – she knows her wine, the wines were all fresh, and it was a great ‘tour’ of the region. Bibu in Tanunda, which is a similar style of operation, we don’t recommend; but Artisans was also excellent.

We three "girls" had two enjoyable nights at Barossa House.
It is a small, charming historic house in a perfect location to visit all the major and more inportantly, the smaller boutique wineries.
Our room (upstairs) was small for three but beautifully decorated and the beds were very comfortable with gorgeous bed linen - lots of pillows and cushions.
A wide screen TV is unobtrusively set on one wall.
Breakfast was country style (delicious) and we immediately had fun chatting with the other three couples around the table.
(These people have been coming to Barossa House for 11 years every June Long Weekend).
Judi and Lee are the perfect hosts - so friendly and we felt at home immediately.
They offer half and full day tours of the Barossa - in small vans that seats 7. ($95.00 for the full day, per person).
Absolutely worthwhile as Lee and Judi who conduct the tours have extensive knowlege of the Barossa. Lee was very flexible and catered to each and every one of us who had a special intererest in a particular style of wine.
I will definitely be going back to Barossa House - this time with my husband!

Room Tip: I did not see the other two rooms downstairs, but the upstairs room is perfect for two and at a pinc...
