Description: Small seasonal menu of Northern Vietnamese-influenced cuisine. The focus is on local produce, most of which is grown in the family vegetable and herb garden. The business also boasts the most comprehensive wine list in South Australia, with international focus on wines that harmonise with the subtly spiced Asian cuisine. Don't expect to find a large listing of the sweet-fruited highly-charged and alcoholic Barossa Shiraz's, but you will find pages and pages of Champagne, German Riesling, White and Red Burgundy, Beaujolais, as well as the most comprehensive listing of wines from new and exciting local Barossa, Clare and Adelaide Hills producers. A wine pilgrim's paradise established for the local wine making community, many of whom are seen each night enjoying dinner at fermentAsian. Note that the wine list was awarded the top wine list award in Australia in the gourmet Traveller Wine List of the Year awards in July 2016.

We tried to book for 4 at last minute, but they were full. Later in the day we walked past and poked our head in to see if they had any cancellations, luckily for us and due to some excellent customer service they were able to squeeze us in. It was definitely worth the perseverence. Not your standard formula Asian restaurant with exciting food and very good wine list. The service was great even though they were very busy. Memorable dining experience finished off with a chat with chef and owner. Just remember to make sure you book early!

I ate here with a couple of mates during a boys wine trip to SA. I was surprised to see this style of food in Tanunda and a bit skeptical but the good write ups persuaded me to book it.
We were still a bit skeptical when we got to Tanunda but good comments from the locals reassured us. It seems they're also glad that this style of food has made it to the region.
The decor was pleasant, the service was very good and the wine list was also very good. The food was the real star though. Easily as good or better than the best meals I had in Vietnam. I have no doubt FermentAsia would be packed if it was in Melbourne.

Visiting the Barossa for a long weekend is a real treat. Lots of things to drink, eat and capture for Facebook as well as chat to locals who are friendly and welcoming. FermentAsian is the restaurant to cap off your great day. It is set in an old house surrounded by well kept gardens and a memorial park. The service is warm - the husband of chef Tuoi is a delight - while other members of the team are just as pleasant. No airs and graces here: just warming help and insights into the menu and very extensive wine list containing many wines you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else. You can have many by the glass. The dining areas are cosy but then you are located in an old house. I have eaten here three times in the space of a month so I have a good 'feel' for what works food wise. You get solid choice - the dishes are basically Asian with a unique chef's twist, which works. The Betel Leaves and pork belly are stand-outs as are the salad dishes. However the Angus beef ribs and duck dishes are a tad 'stewy' for my tastes but that could be me. The sweets are excellent and tasty. My only whinge about this restaurant is that the portions are small and should be larger (food ingredients are cheap, right?) That said, the overall experience is super positive: $120 for two including wine is reasonable given the quality of the fare. Tuoi, the chef/owner recently won chef of the year status. Trust prices don't go up!

We have lived and travelled extensively in SE Asia and this is as good a restaurant as we have experienced anywhere. We had booked well in advance and I was a little disappointed to be seated in a very drab, small room with a large noisy family group. Once the food began to arrive all this was forgotten. You are encouraged to share dishes, this way you experience a range of tastes. The only criticism if the old is that the chilli is played down to suit Aussie taste buds and that the spring rolls lacked flavour. Everything else was superb.

Great wine list ....but I was driving so had wine by the glass which still had a decent selection. Food is good ...Vietnamese with local twist. Seems busy but our waitress was very attentive.
