“what a Gem”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

What a fantastic place to relax and enjoy life. A beautiful stone building from the 19th century with most of the atmosphere of an Inn preserved. the weather was cold and windy, but sitting by the warm open fire in the front bar sipping on a portagaff was heaven. We dined there for lunch an dinner both cooked well and served by friendly staff. The fish was cooked to perfection and the steak just melted in the mouth. This little gem will be on our must visit list again.

The caledonian inn could be quite charming if somebody would invest money....nice old house with little rooms....
Matresses are totally crab, no Aircons and even no fan in our room.
The reception staff was totally unmotivated, she was running the pub and bottleshop too.
Our room supposed to be finished, we got the keys and open the door....it was not finished, took another 30 minutes to wait, no towels until the evening, carpet full of stains and holes, all in all not 110 dollar worth we paid...
instead of that robe is beautieful, go and anjoy a pizza at the pizza factory but i wouldnt sleep here again for the money....

Room Tip: go somewhere else

The 4 beachside cottages are only meters from the hotel where the (so-called) music and pub noise went on until 1.30am. So if you like to sleep before 1.30 am this isn't the place for you. Added to no curtains on the bedroom therefore you are awake at 6.30am, so perfect for insomniacs.
The second story bedrooms face west, so no curtains and no aircon sees the bedroom heat up like a sauna and leave what little sleep time you have left very difficult.
It was great to get home for a rest
This was my fourth time in Robe and this was the worse accommodation.
There are many better places

As far as accommodation goes, this makes a great pub.

And the patrons of the pub won't let you forget it - with singing (and/or swearing/yelling) going on until late into the night immediately beneath the floor boards which separate your room from the festivities.

When I booked this hotel, the rooms looked comfortable in the photos - and visually, they're reasonably accurate. But photos don't reveal the sad truth - that the Caledonian Inn IS a pub, and all the noise of a pub is clearly audible as you lay in your bed trying to pinch a few hours of sleep.

Of lesser concern (at least to me) is the fact that there are only communal bathrooms rather than individual amenities for each room.

This Inn has a very homely feeling about it. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with some nice touches to make you feel welcome. The bathroom is shared, but it's clean and large. The managers are very friendly. Even though the rooms are above the Inn, they are very quiet and peaceful.

The location is also great, it's situated on the main high street and also close to the beach.

We also ate in the bar, the food was decent pub grub and it had a great atmosphere - was very busy for a Tuesday night! The room rate was good value at $80, including continental breakfast for two. I'd definitely recommend this B&B.

I always feel sad about this pub. It has so much charm and character but the bar area needs a good clean and paint. If the owners spent some money updating the place it would make it feel so much more welcoming and we would visit more often .

very friendly staff and bedroom very comfortable with sea view -just . We knew that we wouldn't have an ensuite and the shower / toilet facilities were clean and plentiful. Quiet at night but we were slightly out of season.A nice sitting area upstairs if you don't want to sit in the bar. breakfast was self service and adequate . A lovely old building with history and good value .
