How to beat the heat! First, go to Robe, which is always a bit cooler than the city. Next, stay at the Guichen Bay Motel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a table, chairs and a two seater settee, and a very efficient (and quiet) air conditioner. There is a lovely swimming pool, perfect for a dip at the end of the day. It was easy to stroll down the street for cafes and restaurants, or to the beach, and there is even a movie theatre across the road. David and Ant who run the place were friendly, welcoming and very helpful when minor problems arose. We enjoyed a 4 night stay at a very reasonable cost for high season.

We stayed from the 28th till the 31st of December. The staff were lovely, very helpful and obliging. The hotel is located in walking distance from the main beach, as well as being close to all the restaurants and shops. The location is the best part about the motel. The rooms are very old and the furnishings are very tired. The biggest let down to me was how tiny the bathrooms were, especially is you were sharing the room with another person. Overall very reasonable price wise and the location is perfect for a weekend away.

Thanks for taking the time to pen a review as we encourage all our guests to do so. We agree that the location is great and perfect for a weekend away. The motel is progressively undergoing an upgrade and whilst there is sill work to do a good number of rooms have new bathrooms and whilst not huge the bathrooms are quite adequate and functional for a three star motel. We believe we are great value for money and thankfully the large majority of our guests think so as well.

What was good: cheap and cheerful - what you see is what you get; central location - walk everywhere; helpful management - good with tips on things, and proactive; What could improve: reduce the use of strong scented cleaning agents; improve sound proofing between the rooms; better attention to detail - promised jug of rainwater not in room, and one tea spoon had been put away very sticky .. ewww! While Guichen Bay is OK for overnight, the rooms are very small (basically, the bed with some additional furniture around the walls).

Yes I agree you do get what you pay for. However we did let the guest in well before the check in time and we did mention that the rooms had just been sprayed with an air freshener and the jug in the room is for use with our rainwater tank which is explained to every guest. Sadly it appears our kindness has gone unrewarded. The sticky tea spoon is another matter and I agree it is unacceptable and our cleaning staff have been advised accordingly. The motel is of brick construction and the room the guest stayed in is a standard double which is adequate but bigger rooms are available but again you get what you pay for.

Thank you for taking time out to write this review. We think it's important to make our guests feel comfortable and to let them know what's available in the town so that they may enjoy their stay. Being that we are centrally located on the main road of Robe, guesst are within walking distance to most of our restaurants, cafes, beaches etc so really there s no need to take out the car.

Now that you've been to Robe, we hope to see you again.

It's great. We have been visiting this motel for more than ten years, and under it's new owners it has lifted to a new level with ceiling fans, air-con, microwave, updated bathrooms and modern TV with some Foxtel channels thrown in. There's even free wi-fi. All at a very reasonable rate. Ok, the room we had was small-ish but who goes to Robe to sit in the motel and stare at the furniture? The new owners are keen to get honest feedback, the motel still has the best location to everything in the town, and while the kitchen/restaurant is still under renovation there are plenty of great break/lunch/dinner option either next door or a short walk. Been there/done that/will be back again and again.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and your return visit, it is always a treat when our guests reviews mention cleanliness and comfort, as we strive to provide the best service and accommodation that we can. We are so fortunate here at the Guichen Bay Motel to be so central that we are within walking distance to a host of fine eateries. In your case, I'm glad that you were been able to witness and appreciate our upgrades done to the room you occupied.

On your next trip to Robe, if you are considering a longer stay, we do have a Two Bedroom Suite with cooking facilities, dining and lounge area but as you say "who comes to Robe to stare at the furniture".

Hope to see you again.
