Friendly and OK restaurant just don't go for anything curry based or vegetarian, could cook better at home, totally tasteless.

What a surprise to find this wonderful hotel in such a remote location. Service was quick and very friendly. Good wine list. We ordered King George whiting (for him) and Reef and Beef (for her). Best meal we have both eaten for many years - and we're from the Gold Coast so used to eating out. Value is incredible. Would pay at least 50% more in Adelaide or any major cities. Get there early and watch the fishing boats in the water and enjoy the view.

Many in the know and who have visited this area over many years bemoan the closing of Rhino's tavern. Good honest food at a good honest price.
The Marion Bay tavern's prices aren't too bad, but the quality of food varies considerably. Over several nights we had pizzas which were pretty average. Somehow they managed to overcook the crust yet undercook the topping. Tomato sauce used was sweet, which is just ridiculous. Porterhouse steak was gristly but ok. Fish and chips used imported frozen fish. From South Africa I believe. Do they not find it embarrassing that they run a restaurant at MARION BAY and they serve up imported tasteless rubbish at restaurant prices?!!!
Don't even think of buying anything from the 'bottle-o'... Drive back to Adelaide and pick up a six pack, it's cheaper. I paid $21 for a six pack. Highway robbery.
And, although not connected to the tavern, whoever runs the general store needs to take some 'nice' pills. It costs nothing to smile and wish tourists well and leave a good impression instead of being the absolute humourless grumpy rip-off merchants they are.
Both tavern and store are in serious need of decent competition to straighten up and fly right.

We were both hungry and thirsty so fell of the menu and jug of Pimms to start with. Fortunately for this restaurant, there's not really a choice of places to eat, or we wouldn't have stayed long enough even for that, faced with a bored, unsmiling waitress who didn't even give us menus, just pointed at them. Things looked up fast once the Pimms arrived, though, brought by a smiling and helpful waiter. Two of us had mixed seafood and two the mixed grill. The seafood was very good but the mixed grill more mixed - sorry! But a "cheese kransky" does not go well with steak and chicken. In all cases the chips were pallid and needed cooking at a higher temperature. Standard Aussie prices, so pretty good value for remote country.

This tavern is the only place within an hour's drive, so if you want to eat out at Marion Bay, this is the only option. Very casual, very ordinary furnishings and not the sort of place we'd eat at given another choice. The meal was okay ( steak, fish ) but have had better. Soggy chips. Quite a good wine list. The only place in town to get a coffee.
