We've just been to Lyndoch Hill Restaurant with another couple for a Saturday night dinner. We read the reviews and decided to disregard the negative ones, and keep an open mind. Unfortunately our experience was quite disappointing.

The menu sounded great, but unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations. The calamari in the entree was chewy and the chorizo which goes with it was just a couple of slices, which had been diced up fine (like bacon bits), as if they were trying to stretch it as far as they could. The pork belly had very soft, spongy, chewy skin, instead of the normal crispy skin. If that's what the chef is trying to achieve he needs to change his ideas. If he is indeed trying for crispy skin, he needs more practice. The duck was undercooked, chewy, and almost inedible. Most of the other food was acceptable. The gnocchi entree was quite nice.

Our friends had arrived before us and been served with drinks. When we arrived we were sat down, but not offered any drinks. When orders were finished being taken it was obvious drinks were not going to be offered, so we asked for a bottle of wine. The entree's were delivered and still no wine, so we called them over to remind them. They poured the wine, but never came back to top-up. A bottle of red wine had been decanted for us and glasses delivered for the main course, but no wine was poured. When it was clear they weren't going to pour it we did that ourselves. The wine list has a sticky (desert wine) by the glass, but when we ordered it we were told it was only sold by the bottle, so we didn't bother.

All in all, Lydoch Hill has lots of potential, but needs to improve in many ways. The restaurant itself is quite spectacular and the staff are friendly, but generally the quality of the food & service does not live up to the claims on the website. I hope the owners and staff read this and take it on board, because I would like to see this restaurant improve and succeed.

Food tasted fine but my eye fillet steak was over cooked. Cheesecake was more like a gelatinous mousse and not very tasty. Chocolate mousse was actually a mud cake, not a mousse. Worst of all the service was very poor. We waited more than an hour for our mains and the same again for lunch. Don't order the sparkling water, it's just the cheap supermarket brand decanted into a fancy glass container and charged at ten times the price. Wait staff were not friendly at all. The menu and location were enticing but overall the experience did not meet expectations. If dining in the Barossa again I wouldn't choose Lyndoch Hill Restauarant.

Went to Lyndoch Hill Restaurant today for a friends birthday celebration.

Had read some of the reviews but was hoping that it was still going to be a good venue.

Well reviews dont lie, there was only one other party at the restaurant when we arrived and they were working on the property so theres meal must have been pre orded.

We arrived at apprx 1245pm and did not recieve any main meals for approx 1 hr.

We also ordered sparkling water, however not everyone wanted water but all glasses were filled
and re filled with out request.

What we didnt realise was the we would be charged $9.50 per bottle and they were small bottles.
Whilst waiting for our meals we noticed the staff carrying Coles sparkling water from the kitchen to the bar, we also noted that the fancy bottle that poured our water at the table had a screw top which would allow for them to decant cheap water into a fancy bottle then charge for it!!!
Also it tasted like coles water which is fine if thats what you are paying for.

Meals finally came out by which point everyone was starving.

Very small size meals for the price charged. Also Beef not cooked as requested for all orders and potato was basically like a potato bake ( and not a good one)...

My Partners tart crust was so overcooked it was almost to hard to eat.

We were not able to order Desserts until after Mains were finished which added to the delay
took approx 45 min from order time until served. Desserts were served on slate pieces which were horrible to eat off.

A Birthday cake was brought for the occasion and staff were told that we were happy to pay for them to cut up the cake.

However cake came out on a plate with fruit and a sauce which was not asked for or disscussed if we wanted it.We were then charged $ 4.50 per person for the cake we brought!!

To summerise our meals took along time to come out even though for majority of the time we were the only party there.

Very expensive for what was served up

Cheap water hidden in an expensive bottle/cost

Very expensive cost to have a cake cut into slices

Female staff member that served us was surly and actually rolled her eyes at a number of the guests when asked questions...

Also not made clear that seperate accounts were not able to been done.

Usally this is noted somewhere.

As a result of the slow service and the meals taking so long we were not able to attend the Wineries as planned after Lunch as we did not finish up there until 3:30pm!!!!

As per standards of service it should not take over 2.5 hrs to serve 15 people in a resturant with only two other people that only had the cheese platter!!

Afternoon was ruined by overpriced WATER & CAKE and SLOW service.

Would certainley not state this as stunning venue, Garden beds riddled with weeds, windows were dirty and had large cobwebs on upper windows, old broken table and rusty staircase were the view we had.!!!!!

Would recommend if you are in Lyndoch choose another venue for Lunch/Dinner!!!!

I am glad that I didn't see the reviews of this restaurant before eating here. The food was delicious, service friendly and relaxed. Chef was on his own and several tables arrived together so the service was not speedy, but this is not a chow barn and you expect some pacing to the meal. We dined in about 2hours. We had the pork belly which was tasty and succulent, eye fillet with potato and mushroom delicious, with sides of roesti fingers and broccoli and a kid's meal of chicken tenders, chips and salad. We then shared a baked chocolate mousse with double cream and strawberry compote which was a delight of different flavours. We left the table replete, but not stuffed, satisfied with good food and happy to have chatted with the wait staff.

This is not the restaurant for a cheap, quick meal (although patrons having the special, beef strogonoff, were quickly in and out) but certainly go here if you want to eat well in relaxed style
