Burra Motor Inn

Partner and I met some friends who are doing a work placement in mid north at Burra for a night.

The hotel is basic with decor that will take you back to the 80’s in a flash. I posted it on Facebook and got a few Wentworth detention centre comments....which also appear in another reviewso that was spot on.

The bed was old and a little uncomfortable. Bathroom isn’t the best with an open shower and water that went everywhere. The towels were tiny and old.

It is a basic hotel which is ok if staying for a night while passing through.

Having always stayed at Tivers Row Heritage Cottages when in Burra, the Motor Inn was something of a let down. It's average in everyway except for the room tariff. I was none too keen on the décor, with the bedspreads looking decidedly faded and the cheap looking furnishings and bare brick walls made me think of Prisoner's Wentworth Detention Centre!! The bathroom could have done with a welcome make-over, but the place was quiet enough with free Wi-Fi and the cooked breakfast, included in the price and served in a room close to reception, was plentiful. Sited right above the creek, the Inn is a little closer to the historic town centre than Tivers Row and within easy walking distance of a number of bars/cafes where you can get something to eat and drink. But when next in Burra, I'd rather pay a little extra for a more comfortable and memorable stay at Tiver's Row.

Country South Australia motels can be of variable quality. Burra is reputed to be the coldest place in South Australia and we certainly had to scrape ice off the car. The Burra Motor inn is located between a main road and the creek but is very quiet. One warning is offered; the proximity to the creek can entice wildlife (geese and ducks) to wander into your room, if the sliding doors are left open.

The motel room opened up to the creek at the back which stank, probably because of stagnant water . There are other complaints I have , but will not state them this time .I would stay at the Paxton Cottages run by the Goyder Council , or a B and B should I be in Burra again.

I stay in hotels around the world and this one caught me by surprise. Travelling from Sydney to Perth I couldn't drive further due to tiredness and after looking at Trip advisor I saw the Burra Motor Inn listed and recommended. You turn off the main highway into what looks like the middle of nowhere when suddenly nestled in the hills is the charming town/village that looks like it belong in yesteryear. The motel is lovely and close to the town and the rooms clean, well appointed, Foxtel/Austar television, tea and coffee with fresh milk and a comfy bed. I was very impressed that such a great hotel could be found in such an out of the way place. Definitely would come here again if doing the trip. Some great food in this quaint town also and two service/gas stations open until 8.00pm weekdays. Try not to get in after 8.00pm as you will miss the restaurants and pubs as everything in town seems to close then. Around $120.00 per night per room

Manager seemed like a friendly chap, my room clean with a comfortable bed.....the t.v somewhat small though but still this was better than nothing and it had a selection of channels. Reasonably priced. The motel was within walking distance of shops, unfortunately I had arrived late in the afternoon with little daylight time to check out the towns attractions.
