Description: La Pecora Nera (The Black Sheep) is an Authentic Italian Eatery (Woodoven Pizzeria & Osteria) located in the picturesque town of Burra in the mid-noth of South Australia. Everything revolves around the magnificent wood-fired oven. It's Italian food as it was meant to be - fresh, vibrant & delicious - the closest you can get to dining out in Rome without traveling to Rome itself! Our ever-changing menu includes: Antipasti (cured meats, cheese, olives & other delicasies) ; Insalate (Salads) & Insalatoni (Big Salads); Pasta (both durum wheat & gluten free); Traditional Woodoven Pizza, Dolci (Sweets & Deserts); Gelati & Caffe (Coffee) Buon Appetito!

From reading the reviews on this sight I decided to take my family here for dinner on our weekend away to Burra. We loved it so much that we went back for breakfast the next day and then for Gelati for morning tea. Even though we live over an hour away, we will be returning for a meal with friends in the near future.

Dined at La Pecora Nera last week with friends from Adelaide and from Burra.
What a treat to find such a wonderful place to dine.
The couple who own the business are very present - Paolo is the chef and Clair is front of house. They combine well with their young team of staff to provide a casual, fun and different dining experience.

The menu is limited but there's a lot of fine quality food to be had.
Clair arranged platters of antipasto - including great prosciutto, salami, garlic bread, vine ripened tomatoes with bocconcini, eggplant mushrooms and semi-sun dried tomatoes.
Two at the table chose the special carbonara pasta dish of the evening (delicious - but huge serves) whilst the others shared a massive, simple, delicious pizza. The offer was made to package left overs, so that it could be taken home. A number of other diners took up the offer that evening.
A range of house made gelato was chosen for sweets.
Then Clair arrived at the table with bottles of grappa and lemoncillo and left us to it!

Thanks to the team at La Pecora Nera - we had an unexpectedly terrific dining experience.

The pasta was fresh and although it looked a lot on the plate, was fortunately not too hard to get through. Quite tasty

What a great surprise real thin Italian pizzas, homemade pastas, this trattoria is very good. We had great mussels as well, nice wines and very reasonably priced, will definitely go again before we leave the Clare valley

This has to be the best kept secret in South Australia.
The food is AMAZING, the service is intimate & the experience truly unforgettable.
The crayons on the tables, the old record player, the self service beer fridge this place is UNIQUE.
We had a selection of cold meats & antipasto to start, followed by a variety of pizza's, all mouth watering good. This place is truly authentic italian.
The only problem was, my stomach almost burst when i left.
Will definately be back now my favourite place.
