This was our first trip to Australia (from the US) and of course had to go see the Great Barrier Reef! This cruise tour was recommended by friends that live in Oz and it worked out great. We had our (then) 8 month old with us and she did great.
A word of warning, the trip to the island is really rough waters. Many 'bags' were used en route. But once we arrived, after a few minutes everyone was fine. Our daughter was a little freaked out at first, but overall did well, even fell asleep.
The island tour was great. Our visit was right after a huge storm, so when you go it will be even more beautiful. We even saw some shark fins off the in distance. And some baby sea turtle tracks to through the beach.
We stuck to snorkeling rather than scuba diving or fishing. It was so neat to swim with such beautiful fish. I was able to swim with a sea turtle, which was pretty fun (at the urging of the captain and my husband...we were leaving to head back 5 minutes before I dove back in...but it was worth it!).
The food (included in the tour fee) was good. I would't call it 5 star, but it was still tasty and hit the spot. They also serve afternoon tea and biscuits and served carrot cake on the trip back. (The trip back is MUCH smoother).
Also, if you can get to the marina early, there's a coffee shop across the street/path and they had a pretty good latte and yummy breakfast items. But only eat if you don't get sea sick...
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. In short, great scenery, amazing staff and wonderful memories.
