“A letdown each time”
Reviewed January 17, 2014 via mobile

This hotel is in the most gorgeous setting and the outdoor area and decor is nice, but the meals are overpriced for what you get. They are charging Brisbane prices
for pub fare. Our cocktails were very watery and yet we paid premium price. It could be so much better.

“Lack of flavour”
Reviewed January 6, 2014 via mobile

Have been here a few times and always expect it to be better than it is. Beautifully presented meals, totally lacking in flavour.
My wife ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto, made with either vialone or carnaroli is hard to make mushy but it was. The pale colour leads me to think it was a weak vegetable stock rather than a mushroom stock.
My pan seared snapper was nice and crisp but over cooked, the chilli broth little more than chicken stock and cauliflower, not a hint of chilli or seasoning. We both tried to salt our dishes as they really needed it but the sea air had clogged the shakers.
We would have pointed our these problems had anyone asked but no one checked.

“Carribee at Mon Como lacks finesse”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

We went to the Carribee at Mon Como and we were disappointed. The restaurant is not seperated from the bar and other areas of the hotel so its more of a bar meal than a restaurant. It was stiffling inside until one of our group openned the overhead louvre windows. Our drinks were ordered and served within a reasonable time but there was a 40 minute wait before our food order was taken. The bread and dips consisted of three small bowls of dip and five slices of toast at about $15, not good value. The mains were good and served on a stylish square plate but it was let down by serving the smallish salad in a chunky looking suffle bowl. When we had mosly finished the waitress came and collected our plates whilst one of our group was still eating. This is a fault in many establishments and is a very impolite practice and since I am on a roll, we paid $62.50 a head (including two bottles of wine) and all we had was paper napkins.
Unfortunately the Carribee did not meet our expectations and does not represent good value at this time.

“Unpleasant Experience”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Be very careful of this hotel, they publish a dress code and change it at Managers discretion. However, the Manager refuses to discuss and hides behind really unpleasant thugs they hire as doormen. After 10pm last night they refused to let anyone in wearing dress shorts, even though their web site says DRESS SHORTS ACCEPTABLE. Tommy Hilfiger and Boss was not good enough, even though had we arrived half an hour earlier we would have been allowed in, and there were several people inside in shorts who had gained entry before 9.30 and allowed to stay, makes no sense. Eether dress shorts are acceptable or not!!!!
We are visitors from Belgium and when we rang to check the dress code were told by staff to read it on the web as they were busy. Only one of our group had dress shorts and all had closed shoes and designer clothing. Another couple arrived shortly after, he was expensively dressed and looked very nice but was also refused as he had Tommy Hilfiger knee length shorts.
The Manager refused to meet us to discuss, prefering instead to refer to 'Management discretion' and being allowed to change the dress code as they see fit. We had just driven over one hour to go there. Never again........so its interesting place to go if you want to be forced to dress nicely bevause you arrive at 10pm but mix with people who were there one hour before and are in shorts. By the way ill fitting cheap jeans and runners are acceptable, what a joke!

Sensational atmosphere in a great location. The good was tasty and the staff were professional. There is plenty of parking available nearby and look forward visiting again.
