Sunset tavern is a great place to enjoy the sunset and have a drink. The meals were very good and well priced. Very friendly staff and great ambience. Unspoilt surroundings made for a pleasant visit.

A great way to finish a day .... bottle of wine and a meal overlooking the beach and waiting for the sun to set. The Tavern gets very busy but the service is still good. Meals are the usual tavern meals but reasonably priced, especially considering the remoteness of the area.

With the most extensive menu to select from there is something to please every taste bud. Being in the heart of the fishing industry our friends and we chose seafood and were not dissapointed. The beer garden was massive and we had no trouble getting front row seats for the magical sunset. Very popular photographers dream.

Came up here for a weekend of fishing and croc spotting and decided to go to the Tavern on Friday night. Had a couple of drinks early and the service wasn't too friendly - no time to chat, no smile and pretty quiet.

Came back for sunset and was served by a backpacker who was better (she smiled). Watched the sunset and decided to order a meal. Waited in line for about 40 mins to order. Food was ready 5 mins after we'd ordered which is a bit strange considering the long wait to order. Chicken Parma and Flathead. Not sure if the meals were cooked fresh given the very short wait but it didn't taste like it was. Fish not bad, but the parma was soggy and appeared to have been pre cooked, then warmed up on the grill to melt the cheese.. Over 50 main courses on the menu, but unfortunately most of the meals are fried or deep fried/battered. I only saw one fish option other than fried (grilled from memory) and the lack of options really lets the place down.

The sunset views are good, but better with your own beers off the beach rather than the beer garden. There are not many dining options at Karumba point but I would recommend trying the other places before going here.

This place could be fantastic, but it isn't.

Spent the best part of the weekend here and it found it to be a really mixed bag depending on what you did.

Upside:
*the beer garden is huge and has lots of tables but they aren't packed in so you don't have to worry about feeling like you're sitting on top of anyone

* the view is fantastic and its probably the best place in Karumba Point to watch the sunset

* on the Sunday afternoon about 3:30pm we all wanted cake but the kitchen was closed. However we were advised that we could bring in cake or ice cream purchased elsewhere.

Downside:
* the foods not cheap, even for a pub. You can cop this if the fiod was good, but its unacceptable when the food is bland

* the service can be slow and locals seem to be served first

* there's a lack of consistency with the pricing, paid three different prices for a can of coke on Saturday, all within 40 cents of each other but still, which price is it?

Food:
I had the Barramundi and Chips for dinner on Saturday and the fish was amazing. In fact it was so big I couldn't get trough it all, which was good because the salad that came with it was pretty much the white part of a cos lettuce and a lot of Spanish onion.

For lunch on the Sunday I had the Prawn and Oyster platter. The prawns were very substandard to the point of being bland and whilst the oysters were nice, they were very gritty so I rinsed them and then they were fine.

Overall:
I'd go again for the drinks and view but not for the fresh seafood.
