This was really the only quality place to stay. Very quiet even though fully booked. Do not expect to arrive here without a reservation. Deservedly this motel has a very high occupancy. One of the most comfortable beds slept in in motel style accommodation.

Room Tip: We took the executive room. Bit more expensive but spacious and overlooking the Normanton River. W...

My husband and I stayed there in June 2012 while on a Queensland Rail trip from Cairns to Karumba. Our room was very spacious, much more so than motels usually are, and very comfortable. The breakfast wasn't much but was enough. The staff were helpful. If you go to the pub next door to the hotel at sunset, you get a fabulous view and can see the sun set over the sea - not something we Queenslanders often get to see! At sunset, the pub is THE place to be!

I stayed here just one night on a work trip and was pleasantly surprised by the nice and fairly modern rooms. It's lovely being so close to the coast as well, and there's some tables perched right out near the beach (next to the Sunset Tavern next door) to enjoy a quiet cuppa and look out over the Gulf. The sunset was beautiful of course and it's handy being so close to the tavern. The pool was nice and refreshing after a long drive.

We stayed in a fully self contained unit, the unit was very modern and well provisioned with cooking utensils etc. It included a dining setting for 4 and a lounge style sofa, that was really more designed for lying down to watch TV. Bench space was a bit limited for cooking but adequate. Our unit was very close to the beach, only metres from both the beach and sunset viewing at the back of the motel and next door to the Sunset Tavern, a very special place in Australia. You need to come with all your provisions as there are only 2 shops in Karumba Point, with only limited supplies. Karumba Town is only 5-10 minutes drive away there is a larger supermarket there. The end of the road motel is a great place to get away from it all and relax. There's not much there so you need to bring a book or be happy staring out to sea! There are only three units facing the beach, try and get one of these if you can. Our unit was very nice, but there was only a small window with a view of the fence. Disappointing, but it didn't affect our stay, we really enjoyed it.

After travelling for days through the outback, we were glad to spend a bit longer in Karumba. We made a good choice as the End of the Road Motel did not let us down. Although busy with some families and groups going fishing, we felt very welcome just doing nothing as well. Also we were glad we had a room a bit in the back instead of at the front as the families were there and it gets busy at the end of the day for sunset. The room itself is more resort like than motel like, which is a big plus and basically for that price in the outback by the sea it is a very good deal. Good beds, big fridge, clean bathroom, a few seats outside, lots of space, nice couch as well to relax a bit. We walked a bit along the water, enjoyed food and drinks nextdoor and didn't do much more which was perfect. We did want to do a Croc and Crab tour, but not enough people unfortunately. I had the impression that there were more tour options with other operators maybe but they didn't tell us somehow, which was maybe the only negative thing, but nothing really to do with the accommodation itself.

When we drove around Karunmba, and Karumba Point, I kept thanking my lucky stars that I had consulted trip advisor before booking, so that I KNEW that the End of the Road Motel is the only place worth staying in. All the other options can look lovely in the photos, but this place is just paradise, which, after the drive it takes, is absolutely what you need! Our first night was in unit 4, which was a normal unit, very clean and spacious, and then when the beach-front 2-bedroom unit became available we moved in there. It was just lovely; big, airy, clean, good kitchen, and right on the beach. The sunset can be viewed from just outside the unit. The management were helpful and friendly, and they booked us on a fishing charter ("Kerry D" - can recommend). There is a bbq we were able to cook our fish on. We ended up extending our stay because it was such a glorious spot. Why would you stay anywhere else in Karumba?
Good tavern next door, and takeaways over the road. Small supermarket over in the Karumba township.

Room Tip: If you can get one of the sea view apartments (we had unit 19) it is bliss. So much better than the...
